64 Rear Brake Drum
I have a 49 Chevy 3100 with a 64 GMC rear end. I need to replace a rear brake drum and it seems like finding a new one isn't possible. The drum is actually made in 2 pieces. The outer rim is cast iron and the "hub" is steel with the two pieces welded together. The dimensions are : 11" I.D. x 2-1/4". Overall height is 3-1/4". I've tried all the on line people like Brothers, Jim Carter, etc. Any suggestions where I can find one?

That rear drum is the same as the fronts. There are constantly people on here giving away front suspension parts who have coverted to disc. Post a WTB ad or check the "Paying it Forward" thread. Should be easy to find one.

Can you post a picture of that two piece rear drum? In all the trucks I have seen and worked on, I never heard of a two piece drum...

A '64 GMC should have a Dana 44 differential. Those are very difficult to find drums for. A standard 12 bolt drum will not work. There is a thread here about one guys quest to find drums for his Dana 44. Sorry but I do not remember the members name or the drum he found to work.

I attempted to send a pic of the drum but was unable to. I've decided to go to a disc brake conversion, which begs the question, "How do I identify a Dana 44 diff"? Appreciate any help with this. I will keep trying to send a pic.

The rear drum on a GMC rear-end is not the same as the front drum. The GMCs had rear leaf springs, not coil springs, and as a result, the rear drums are fatter from outside to inside.
I ended up getting some Wagoneer drums that were the right pattern but wrong hole sizes, and had them machined. It was expensive, but I am confident the shoe is making full contact with the drum, unlike going with a narrower drum. You can read the specifics in this thread. (as previously posted by MusicMan70)
