Tuck1371's '71 K5 build thread (Project SgtMaj)
Hey all! Just wanted to get a build thread started for progress on my K5. It's a little slow going... I travel quite a bit for work and it's being stored at a friends shop until I can get one built at mine. Coordinating days to work on it can be quite a challenge haha.
I bought it back in 2006 from a guy in California after I returned from my first deployment to Iraq. It was a play rig... warmed over 454, roll bar, 4" (I'm guessing) lift, 33x12.50 Buckshots. I semi daily-drove it and eventually shipped it home to Kansas in 2007 when I deployed a second time. Returned home in 2008, got out of the military, and drove it and tinkered with it here and there. Swapped in a TH400, rebuilt the NP205... other little stuff, too. Life took hold and the Blazer kind of fell out of focus while I went to school and found work and yadda yadda... I did something to hurt the motor one day while idling it and ended up pulling it. Stripped it down to a short block and then everything sat for 2 years.... Enter my buddy and his crew of gearheads. They do a little work on the side and wanted to take on my K5 at the cost of materials and beer. I'd been really wanting to get it back on the road and figured "What the hell, no better time than now." Here we are... I'll upload pics as soon as I can get them on my computer. For now, here's a video the body man put together for his YouTube channel. I'll update progress as it happens and hopefully can provide a resource for others as well as turn to you guys as questions arise. Thanks for reading my small novel haha... https://youtu.be/Mq3dhk6JudM?t=87 |

Resurrecting this thread... Never have been good at keeping build threads current. Lots has happened in the almost two years since I've started this thing. Pic dump tonight or tomorrow once I figure out where to host them and get em uploaded. Hoping to draw on the knowledge base here once I start going back together...
Anywho, here's how my '71 was toward the end of it's stay with the body man. Not much has changed, added mirrors but that's about it. Just got it home this past weekend. http://imgur.com/a/QFObMuj Last edited by tuck1371; 03-12-2019 at 11:30 AM. Reason: Trying to get pic to work... |
