burb gate wont open

I have a stuck gate. Have messed with the linkage and mechanisms with no luck.
Wondering if there might be a switch in there that wont let the gate open if the window isn't all the way down.
at a loss, its an 84.

Yes, there is a "switch" or I would say more of a lever. As you roll down the window, the glass pushes this switch/lever back allowing the gate linkage to be pulled in from the center via the handle. Remove your access plate, and look for a white roller looking kinda of thing in the center of the gate area between the glass and the backside frame facing you in the center. It is hidden behind where the two center screws are located in the access panel.

In fact, if you take the glass out of the tailgate, you will need to take a coat hanger and tie the lever back in order to open the gate.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Ride, that sounds like it should get me fixed up. Any idea how much of a job it would be to convert to barn doors?

Re: burb gate wont open

Jimmy,

The best and easiest way to convert from a tailgate to barn doors is a checkbook!

Go buy one that already has them ;-)

From what I've read, a bunch of metal work, plus a donor truck, etc.... If you want it done right.

But that's just what I've read, no experience firsthand.
