Brakes
Can anyone help me out I have a motor with a really big cam and it is causing very little vacuum for my power brakes what would be the best way to goon my c10 step side 12v electric vacuum pump brakes? are Hydroboost brakes?

I have a few supercharged vehicles with hydroboost brakes. I would use a hydratech kit or something similar. Im running manual brakes on my c10 and will install a hydroboost once my truck is faster than I can stop.

Depends on your budget. You may be able to pick up a hydraboost system cheap at a wrecking yard, but most of them use a later model master cylinder. You could switch to a manual brake master cylinder, which is even available for disc brakes, and just ignore the low vacuum signal altogether. The pedal effort is about like manual drum brakes. Even my wife can stop our van with hydraboost, if the engine quits.

You can try a vacuum canister. It goes in line between the vacuum source (engine) and the power brake booster. It stores vacuum until you push the pedal down. It's usually only good for one, maybe 2 pushes of the pedal until it builds up more vacuum. But that happens fairly quick.
What does "goon" mean? Or maybe a spelling thing... Gary

I'm guessing "go on".
Didn't some diesel pickups -- Fords, maybe -- use small belt-driven vacuum pumps? Combined with a canister, something like that might do the trick.

My neighbor did the vacuum canister and always complained about it.
I went with a hydroboost setup that I build from factory OEM parts. The Hydratech kits are setup nice, but a little pricey. With a little research you can use the OEM parts and save some $$$

The vacuum canisters are basically useless , hydroboost works great on big cam low vacuum engines

HydroBoost is so over rated and over priced it is not funny He would be better off buying a 12 volt vacuum booster. These trucks have many Areas to hide 1. Unless you fined a used 1 that works for a decent price I have not found a decent 1 for a while. Let me know if you find 1 for a decent price. The Cheapest I have found is 500+. I found a 12 volt vacuum pump for 125. I just cant make up my mind.

When I worked at the Cadillac dealership we had a bulletin with the CTS. We would install a 12V vacuum pump, plumbed to the booster to assist the brakes. It was mostly for cold start periods where the engine was not making much vacuum while caused by aggressive cam timing. I don't remember the years affected. On the other hand I recommend manual brakes. I had power brakes but switched over to manual brakes with a wilwood master and adjustable prop valve. I have no complaints and no plans to switch back. I looks way cleaner under the hood also. Hydraboost is just a power steering leak waiting to happen.

I was going to suggest looking for a powermaster brake setup off a mid 80's GM station wagon (same unit on Grand Nationals) but dang those things are bringing good money on eBay.
