14 FF swap/cucv-what year could it be?
In swapping a 14ff rear axle (from a cucv) into my 85 K20, I decided to open it up and do a good inspection first. All looks good, except, I cannot find a spindle nut socket at any store in town. This nut has 6 half round notches on its outside diameter and several 1/4 inch keyways on its inner diameter. The keyways are retained with a flat circular spring clip that locates on the hub spindle threads. There is an inner and an outer bearing and only an inner seal.
Any idea what year this might have come from? Iv'e read there is a "new" and an "old" style 14FF that changed around 85. I'm not sure I even need this socket; the axle was well maintained and came apart easily. I was just looking to seat the bearings before backing the nut off to the first keyway that lined up. Appreciate the help. Mike |

If it looks like this:
Its an 87ish or newer There should be a key that keeps the nut from turning. The only purpose of the spring clip is the keep the key from sliding out. This is the socket you need. I have a blue point brand. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/s...et/model/c3500 |

I think the only difference between the two (earlier vs newer 14 bolts) was the earlier one had 2 spindle nuts with a locking washer between them and the later just had one wide one with the square key and snap spring

Re: 14 FF swap/cucv-what year could it be?
same socket will work for both .
and early dana 60 front with 6 tab nut also can be made to work with the socket . the dana 60 socket for early just needs the teeth kissed with a file to make them semi round and then it fits both axles just fine .

You can also use the Dana 60 front spindle nut kit on the 14 bolts, this way you only need 1 socket.
