1969 C10 CST with Camper Restorations - Value
Hello All
I've just bought a 1969 CST with a Camper, long wheel base. It's all original, one owner, in extremely good condition, with owners manual. I had it turned up the day I bought it. It runs perfect, air conditioner and everything works. There was a little (very little) bit of rust on the rocker panel and cab corner on the passenger side. I took it to my restoration guy this weekend to repair these areas. I ordered the rocker panel and cab corner. He's going to paint it, put new trim and molding on it, pull the engine, paint it as well. What would the pick up sell for now, without painting or any work done? I am also in the middle of restoring a 1969 Bronco and may have to sell the pickup. I want to make sure I'm not doing anything to hurt my resale value since it was in very good shape when I got it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate. Wheels? I've bought a set of Coker Tires 3 1/4 White Walls (235 75r15). I don't know what type wheels to get? Hub caps? It has the original wheels on it. I lost one of the hub caps while driving it home from the owner. The other three are faded (otherwise in good shape). I'm thinking of having the wheels painted the same color of the truck and buying new hub caps. Maybe the plate looking chrome caps. Any ideas? Paint? I'm painting it the original color. Turquoise. I've seen a few that were painted white under the bottom trim. Would this be a bad idea since it wasn't originally this color? Mirrors? I like it original, but the minors are bulky. Should I keep them on it or buy the smaller square mirrors. I know most will say, "buy what you like best" but I'm worried about hurting the resale value. Camper? I took the camper off and have it stored. I don't plan to put it back on, but if I sell the truck, I'll obviously throw it in. Should I have it painted as well? Would it be worth more with the camper on it? Lower? I've have had a few people say it would look better lowered. I would not like it "slammed." But I also think it would look good slightly lower. Opinions? Last edited by glredmanii; 09-25-2017 at 01:30 PM. Reason: Original Post had a typo in the title "C19" |

with the small amount of rust that's on the truck I would fix the problem area and blend them in. Buff the truck and sell it as is. I think you would be miles ahead.

Re: 1969 C19 CST with Camper Restorations - Value
That looks to be a very nice truck as it sits now.
Buff paint out and clean it up I bet it's worth between 7-9k Do all the work you just described will cost you as much as the truck is worth (or more) And the truck will be worth 15k if your lucky Those are round numbers, just speculation But for all the effort you will put I think you are better off selling before restoring it They are only original once!!! And many people look for that. It is pretty desirable with buckets, too😀 |

Do not paint that truck! It's worth just as much if you leave it in original paint. Leave it 100% stock, that's where the value is. And please, please don't lower it

Re: 1969 C19 CST with Camper Restorations - Value
I'm not wanting to sell it at this point. I've never restored a vehicle and just don't want to mess this one up. The older gentleman that sold it to me told me it was rare. I don't know if it is or isn't. Except it has 3 gas tanks and It's the first I've seen like it.
If I were to keep it and drive it, I prefer a new, really good paint job over the vintage look. If I keep it the original color, and original paint, does this devalue the truck? And, the trim was all straight. I kept it. But it was dull and faded. I ordered new trim to add after it's painted. Will this hurt the value? The carpet inside was "ok" but nothing like new. I ordered new carpet and threw away the old stuff. Except the carpet behind the seat. The chrome door handles are in good shape, but they have a "bubbled look" in areas. I've ordered new handles, ... same questions...value? I guess I'm not sure what is meant by "restoring" the truck. My bronco is being completely restored (but it wasn't even close to being as nice when I started). Every bolt, nut, piece of metal restored. With the pick up, if I keep it "original" color, same trim but new, etc. Does this mean restored? Is it a bad idea? Engine. The engine runs well. I drove it from Dallas to N. Texas (75 miles each way) twice and it ran like a champ. However, the engine has wear on it like any 48 year old vehicle. Is it a bad idea to paint it? Clean it? Add new gaskets? Again, this is my first "older" vehicle to start with that is really nice. I don't want to take away from the original aspect, but I also like vehicles that look perfect. Any suggestions will be appreciated! |

Leave it alone. Add $5000 to what you paid for it, flip it and move on

Re: 1969 C19 CST with Camper Restorations - Value
I'm not interested in flipping it for $5,000 at this point. I've learned a lot from this post and will not paint it. I'm not going to lower it either. But I still haven't learned whether replacing trim, door handles, worn looking items will devalue the truck.
And, can someone suggest what I should do with the wheels? I realize "leave it like it is" is one option. But I only have three "original" hub caps and the original tires are bad. I've ordered Coker 3 1/4 white wall radial tires. Should I paint the original wheels and add new hubcaps? Or leave them worn looking and buy new hubcaps? Chrome wheels? Thanks |

As for trim, I think I would just leave it, unless you used GM NOS trim on it. Just beware of some of the crap repo parts. Polish that thing up, fresh white wheels, white wall tires, a nice set of hub caps, and that will get way more attention than a restored truck

Re: 1969 C19 CST with Camper Restorations - Value
don't waste your time and money painting or replacing anything.it will not be worth it on such an original truck. now if you plan to keep it do whatever you want. I am not too far down the road from you so if you do need some used original parts let me know . good luck and have fun with it.

Super nice truck! Some excellent advise provided for you. Leave the mirrors alone as well. Can you post a picture of the glovebox spid sticker?

Lots of people drive a lot of miles and look at a lot of trucks trying to find one that nice, myself included. Nice truck.

Re: 1969 C19 CST with Camper Restorations - Value
Yes, I've received excellent advice from everyone. And, it probably saved me from screwing up a really nice truck. I'm grateful. I've called the restoration guy and told him to not paint anything. He's going to repair the small rusty spot under the door and on the cab corner (size of a quarter). Then, he's going to blend it in. Afterward, I'll submit a post asking how to buff it, product to use etc. I hate that it's dull, but I'm appreciative that it will be original. Thanks to the forum.
Dirt's 72 Tomorrow, I'll ask him to send a picture of the spid sticker. I have a pic of the vin. Jocko I love thick white wall tires! I've always wanted a truck with super thick white walls. I was upset that Coker didn't have a tire with over 4 inches thick that would fit. |
