6 Cylinder Motor ID
I realize by looking at those cylinders its a boat anchor but is it a 235 boat anchor or 261 boat anchor? A buddy says its a 261, I'm betting on 235. Its in a '60 Apache.

Re: 6 Cylinder Motor ID
Met a guy at a truck meet 2 weeks ago and he was saying if there are two bumps above the starter on the block that is an indication of a 261. The 235 does not have the bumps apparently.

Re: 6 Cylinder Motor ID
Check for the "captains bars" above the starter.

Re: 6 Cylinder Motor ID
Yup, bore size will tell you, and the captains bars cast in the block above the starter. By your picture, it could be either.

Re: 6 Cylinder Motor ID
By bore size its a 235. My buddy said there was a difference in placement of distributor and fuel between the two.
