cutting thrrottle cable.
I'm cutting my new throttle cable and the directions for finding the correct length are not clear. my take is that once hooked up to the pedal you pull the inner cable to the cable retainer and then cut the inner cable 1 inch forward of that point. does that sound right?

Re: cutting thrrottle cable.
not sure what you mean by 1 in forward....I would secure the cable housing on both ends and not in a bind...not sure which end you are starting on but secure whichever end it is to either pedal or throttle...with everything relaxed...throttle in idle position and pedal up fasten it together...then I'd try it to determine when not cranked that pedal movement will pull to wot......then crank and check again...make sure it'll idle and give throttle movement..then cutoff excess leaving you a inch or so of excess cable beyond the mounting point..

Re: cutting thrrottle cable.
your explanation is as clear as the instructions
i'll assume your throttle cable has a inner cable, cable housing and 2 fixed brackets on the go pedal and carb/throttle body you want a little slack in the cable housing so that the brackets don't break when the motor torques the housing can do loop-de-loops for all i care and will still work fine as for cutting the cable; technically you don't need to until it is installed and working correctly thread the cable thru the housing, brackets, make sure one end is secured at the go pedal the other end should go into the clamp at the carb/throttle body make sure you go from idle thru WOT before cutting anything lokar eliminator pedal in truk pic shows 3 cables going to my throttle body: throttle, tv cable and cruise control throttle cable goes over the distributor into the bracket and around the elliptical bell crank i had to mod the go pedal mount to get WOT, lokar sells a spacer now

Re: cutting thrrottle cable.
If the inner cable pulls clear out, mount the cable assembly up so it is connected to the gas pedal and works freely, Then put it in the clamp that will hold it in place on the carb with that room to flex that they mentioned Mark the housing where you can cut it with enough housing sticking out of the clamp (the 1 inch that was mentioned) and take it off and pull the inner cable clear out and cut the housing off at the mark Put it back together, install it and hook it up to the carb with the excess inner cable sticking out until you get your adjustment right on for full wide open throttle and then trim the excess off the inner cable.

Re: cutting thrrottle cable.
Yea be sure to check you're able to get the full pedal and linkage travel. If you're using one of the universal cables you usually have an adjustment so you'll get some wiggle room and it doesn't have to be perfect.
As far as cutting the actual cable... I've been using my plasma for that task. Cuts cleanly and welds the end so it doesn't fray. |

Re: cutting thrrottle cable.
Well there is a viable excuse to buy a Plasma cutter if I ever saw one. One of my buddies has every metal working toy known to man in his shop two miles away so I'd have to catch him at home.

Re: cutting thrrottle cable.
For a while it felt like a frivolous Craigslist purchase but has been well worth it over the past few years. Little uses like this are just icing on the cake.
