Need evaluation help

To start I am familiar with "classic" cars been in the community for 10 years now and have a couple of 54 Buick Roadmasters.

So with a family member knowing this he reached out to me to sell off the 52 GMC pickup that was my great grandfathers. There is not alot of desire in the family to keep/restore this truck and my Uncle has decide to sell it off.

Some info
  • very poor condition, some fender metal will need to be replaced along with some of the floors.

parked in an unheated barn for last 15 years

Full mechanical resto required to make it road worthy brakes ect ect

The classic "ran when parked" 15 years ago but engine status unknown

unsure of model, not a 5 window though

Location is east Ottawa Ontario Canada.

Have an eager buyer offering 1000

I went to Nada and was shocked to see low retail at 8-10k???

I was thinking the 1k was an acceptable offer but thought I would check in...not familiar with truck values but I do know they are crazy popular right now.

Any thoughts comments would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Need evaluation help

Let me be the first to ask for pictures. Without them, it'll be impossible to give any real solid advice.
Location is everything also.

Based on what you saying, I'd say grab the $1000 and move on. You're certainly not being taken advantage of.

Re: Need evaluation help

Clear title = minimum 500 + over an equal truck with no title. On one FB site where guys put similar trucks up for sale the asking runs from around 1K to 3K

I think I would shop it on the local sales website for somewhere between 2 and 3 K first and see if anyone anties up a better offer. Give the gent who made the offer the right to make a counter offer or if it doesn't sell in X days his offer is accepted. Just be honest with him and say that you believe it is worth more and that you want the chance to look for a better offer.

My ongoing truck projects:
48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: Need evaluation help

Perfect lads, thanks...just what I needed.

I agree regarding pics, I have not seen this truck in about ten years myself. My uncle was not active in trying to sell but only reacting to someone bugging him to buy and not wanting to undersell it.

I will advise him if he wants more then to properly and actively sell it with pics ect ect but don't expect more than 2-3k as a top end but would likely still go for close to the 1k already offered.

Just some due diligence lads, I appreciate it.

Frankly I am partial to these trucks and if I wasn't so deep into a complete off frame resto with my Buick then I would be all over this one.

Cheers!

Re: Need evaluation help

I'd seriously consider keeping this one in the family.
You could surely pick it up at a reduced price, put it away somewhere clean and dry.
The Buick will be done some day. You might then wish you'd have kept it.
If not, then sell it.

1. Would you have a place to keep it ?
2. Any sentimental value at all ?
3. Any planned projects after the Buick ?

Just thoughts.

I second that....Think of the intrinsic value...would you want to build it for your kids, your grandkids, is it even in a state worth restoring?
