brake pressure

i recently swapped my 66 to cpp power brakes and calipers up front. i ran a few new lines to the front and rear. today was my first time really testing the truck out. all seemed good until after driving it for about an hour or so it seems i am loosing pedal pressure. I looked all around for leaks and what i do find is some fluid on top of the proportionate valve. i tighten it up the best i could but it didnt budge. should i use some type of teflon on this fitting? any other suggestions for things to look at.

Re: brake pressure

I also just last weekend installed power front disc from CPP. I had to tighten the lines going into the proportionate valve 3 times. I think I finally got it to stop seeping there. I really thought I was about to twist it off.
The only real problem I had was a low pedal. It turned out to be air in the left rear line. It is working great now.
You should call them and see what they say. If mine shows signs of leaking any more I plan to call them.

Re: brake pressure

Don’t use Teflon on it.
Sometimes you need to ‘mate’ the flare.
Tighten it a bit, loosen, tighten again, loosen and on and on. Might take several cycles. The action heats the flare slightly and the metal surfaces conform to each other.

Re: brake pressure

Good advice from Geezer. I give it three cycles whenever I mate flares.

Re: brake pressure

well after doing some more inspecting i found the rear reservoir completely empty. Looking at my rear lines i dont see anything that would say its losing fluid from. i tightened up where the rear hard line goes to the soft line at the frame as i replaced that and there was some sign of fluid there.

If the reservoir is empty you should also re-bleed that section.
