Newbie, quick ?
Hi, just registered.
Taking delivery of my 1970 C-10 SWB Fleetside tomorrow. Needs lot's of work. My question is how do people like their suspensions. I read almost every thread in the susp section and noone comments on how these new susp's handle. I come from the Mustang crowd and fast bike crew so please let's hear opinions. I don't think I want to bag my truck, but how does it handle vs. traditional susp upgrades? I like the look of ECE's 4/6 drop, but how practical is it? I want my truck to outhandle the average sport cars. Suggestions? By the way this is my only 4 wheel vehicle and I live in CT in the mountains so it has to practical, but I will suffer slightly if it will outhandle a Vette. Oh yeah, thanks for the great board! |

They can be made to handle good but will never out handle a good sports car. For starters that drop will be nice, good shocks, 3/4 ton front sway bar, they make rear sway bars also, you can buy a quick ratio steering box, and top off with a nice set of wide meats should get you going

Let's see. Replace all your sheetmetal with fiberglass to drop about 800 lbs. Drop the truck about 4 inches to get the center of gravity closer to where it ought to be. Positraction rear end. Big sway bars front and rear.
That will about get you to the same performance as corvette with a clapped out suspension and a dead cylinder being driven by an octagenarian. Probably cheaper to go buy a corvette, man. These trucks are too tall and too heavy to outperform any sports car, except perhaps in a straight line. Brian |

I've pretty much got what LeRoy layed out...
ECE 4.5/ 6 drop, KYB shocks, big 3/4 ton swaybar and fat BFG tires. It is completely practical. I've driven 4/6 dropped trucks for years, using them like trucks. Handles as good as my 5.0 Mustang LX coupe which has full chassis bracing, caster/ camber plates, lowering springs and poly bushings all around. You won't be sorry.

Especially TX. That was what I wanted to know and that picture nailed it. That's what I will do then. How easily does the ECE kit install? |

Oh yeah, I meant I would suffer through the ride if it outhandled a Vette, but what TX said sounds like I won't have to suffer and it will still handle well enough.
Anyone heard of or done an Art Morrison chassis on a C-10? |
