Newb from Winston-Salem, NC

First time caller, short time listener from Winston-Salem. I'm actually in the unincorporated County of Forsyth near Wallburg,NC so I don't have to be bullied or constrained by those loons that govern the city.

I scored a 1970 C10 form a neighbor and happened across this forums looking for info on it. Looks like a lot of great information contained within these treads. Figured I'd pipe up and say hello.

The long bed pickup I purchased just to have something to make the occasions trip to Lowes, but I am super excited to have such a awesome classic ride. It contains rust and needs some work, but it runs great and I find myself looking for opportunities to drive it. It has a 3 speed on the column so I don't have to worry about the wife, kids or nearly everyone I know asking to borrow it. Manual transmissions are probably one of the best theft deterrents you can have.

Looking through these treads has given me a lot of ideas. I certainly do not want a show truck, but I do need to figure out the best way to knock out the rust and get it into a condition it will be dependable last me many, many years to come.

Re: Newb from Winston-Salem, NC

Thanks for the reception. Here are a few pics of my new hot rod.

It's a 350 with a 3 speed and power steering (little else). At some point I plan to straighten the front bumper, manage some rust, fix or replace rocker panels and sections of floorboard. For now I'll get all the lights working, fix the leaking valve covers and drive it when as needed. I got a heck of a deal on it and it cost next to nothing for insurance and taxes.

Re: Newb from Winston-Salem, NC

Thanks! More I mess with it the more I see to mess with. One thing I'm realizing is I need to buy a welder and learn a new skill. I see 50 years of rust.

First I want to make sure everything mechanical and electrical works, then I'll start thinking about the cosmetics. Taken care of many of the items I had on the list already, but I've added several also.

Regardless, I got a heck of a deal on it and I enjoy driving and working on it.

Killer! Welcome. Great buy, you'll love it. I got mine on a deal too from a neighbor. Came in boxes..literally..no really, boxes. I don't have to do anything but clean it up, swap rear end types, put it back together!

Re: Newb from Winston-Salem, NC

Thanks for the reception y'all. Looks like there are a lot of people from the Piedmont Triad area represented here.

I've cleaned it up quite a bit. Done quite a few repairs to things that had been neglected. I still need to spend some time on the brakes as one of them seems to be sticking. Also still need to fix the parking brake cable, backup light switch and replace the valve cover gasket.
