3/4 ton & 1 ton rotors the same?

I have some 3” drop spindles for a 73-91 one ton chevy truck. It has the dually rotors on it now, but for reasons of narrowing the track width I want to go to the single wheel 8 lug rotors. Seems easy to find 3/4 ton rotors but one ton single wheel rotors seem to be difficult. Will the 3/4 ton rotors work on the 1 ton spindles? Are the bearings compatible? If not, can anyone tell me a good source for the single wheel one ton rotors?

You may have to replace the spindle because of the caliper mount. I think the 1 ton is a much thicker rotor than the 3/4 requiring the caliper change

I think the rotor is 1/4” difference in thickness. Just figured I could run the one ton caliper and brake pads and 1/8” on either side of the rotor wouldn’t be that big o a deal. But I’m not certain, the reason for the questions

I looked on Oreilly Automotives website.
They show a 3/4-ton rotor, a 1-ton single wheel rotor, and a 1-ton dually rotor.
I would think you could easily swap your dually rotors for 1-ton single wheel rotors.
The C30 bearings seem to be the same for both.
The C20 stuff has a different part number, and the caliper attaches to the rotor different than the c30 trucks.


Part numbers:
C20 rotor 5010RGS

C30 rotor 5016RGS
C30 dually rotor 5022 RGS

C30 National bearings:
A1503S (outer)
A35 (inner)

The only issue I see with the rotor swap is your track width will be A LOT narrower.
Most run a 2" longer a-arm when using single wheel rotors.

I just checked the rotor heights (overall) not to the wheel mounting surface.
Dually rotor was 7.690" tall
Single wheel rotor was 5.170" tall.
So a difference of approximately 2.520"

I may end up needing the 2” longer control arms, not sure yet. I have a 48 ford F-5 mounted on a 3/4 ton 1971 chevy frame with 1988 one ton suspension so this is very much uncharted territory for me. I’m gonna get the single wheel rotors and go from there. Thanks for all the info Keith. ERICHEVY- do you remember what you paid for them (with shipping)?

That’s a cool project.
I was thinking a c30 truck with semi wheels in 22”-24”.
The single wheel rotors will probably solve your problems.

Thanks, my grandpa bought it brand new in 48. Been in the family ever since, but sat in the barn since 1977.

Does anyone know from first hand experience if I swap to a single wheel rotor (the part numbers appear to be the same on the bearings) if the dually clip style brake calipers will even work with the single wheel one ton rotors?

If the bearings allow the rotor to seat on the spindle hub AND the rotor width is similar, I would think so.

I'm basing that opinion from picturing my dually rotors in my head & envisioning installing the calipers. It seems as long as the rotors 'seat' similarly & the widths are similar, the caliper won't know the extra hub/snout width is no longer there.

Wade. A single wheel 1 ton rotor will bolt directly up to a dual wheel 1 ton front spindle. Same bearings. Same caliper and brake hose. Don't mess with 3/4 ton stuff. Won't work. Done a few swaps this way.
