Give In to the LS

OK....decided to bite the bullet and throw down on an LS. LQ9 to be exact. Can't see spending the money on a SBC Gen I when I can get the LS cheap and power potential is so much better.

Before I get the dollar gun out can anyone tell me of a reputable guy who can clean the harness of excess wires, flash the computer and make a stand alone harness?

I'm also looking for a post that takes you through all the wonderfulness that is an LS swap.

I'm old but feel the need to embrace the new.

Re: Give In to the LS

I did my harness myself using the instructions from http://lt1swap.com/

I also sent my computer to Brendan at lt1swap to be flashed.

Re: Give In to the LS

@fredhlynch2, hello. its nice to see a newbie take the plunge in reference to LSx. It doesn't take much to switch over especially if you are tech savvy or mechanical. Lets start with the hard part, the harness. there are many vendors that alter or build you a harness. google ls1 wire harness. the pcm can be programmed by our own board member, 68 four on the floor. he has tuned several pcms for me with good results. if you can install a sbc you can swap an LSx.

Re: Give In to the LS

I also used Brendan at lt1swap.com. His website has alot of great info. Local guy did my harness but there are a bunch on the net and a few on this board that can do it. I have also used this forum and the vast knowledge to figure out what I needed and how to to the swap. Just recently put 5.3 LM7 into 65 c10 and installed the harness. Brand new for me as i have never done anything like that before. Just remember you are doing some customizing so be patient and some of it is way fun and other parts are frustrating and costly.

Re: Give In to the LS

Info on the truck.

64 C10 short step side. Ford 9" narrowed with 3.70 gears. 20" Detroit Steel wheels.

Transmission: Seems the 4l65e is the right choice behind an LQ4 with a bit more cam. I considered a 4l80 but am concerned I will have to chop my tunnel up to make it fit. Already have the high hump installed. I could not find a thread where a 4l80 was used in a swap. Then there is also the TR6060. Once again, could not find a threat where the TR6060 was used.

Love how you did your bed floor, do you have more pics or a build thread?

Just found your thread about it, nice work!
