Re: Spitfire
Today was a good day for her. New battery and got the proper steering column in her. I got rid of the 79 column that was hacked into it. Now just to get the shift linkage adjusted and everything all bolted down.

Re: Spitfire
Since ya asked wellllllllllllll The first time we started her up and got her to idle she backfired through the carb and had a small fire starting, so i mashed the gas, put the fire out and it spit fire out the headers catching some dead grass on fire. Thankfully no damage other than some singed grass and arm hair and ringing ears And thats how spitfire got her name!

Re: Spitfire
I was thinking it had to do with the spitfire broadheads. Do to the reliability of them. I still use them to this day and have no complaint with them. Nice project you have. Hopefully you will have it shinning like a new penny for prom

Re: Spitfire
Back in the early '70s one of my friends had a '62 Grand Prix with tri-power that he was tuning. He had had his hair styled and hair spray applied. The girls loved it, but when he cranked the throttle that center carb backfired and set his hair on fire. I yelled that his hair was on fire but he didn't believe me. I could even hear it sizzle, what with the lacquer or whatever it is they used in the hair spray! I threw a (dry) rag at him and put it out. He had to go get it styled again. I never did that hair style stuff. That was a lot of money that was better spent elsewhere.

Re: Spitfire
I had a '64 Malibu SS that I tricked out the suspension. I used to do stupid stuff like racing in the mountains.

Re: Spitfire
More tactical pic drops coming after this message from Me!!! Yesterday was an eventful day, i finished up the column install, with the help of some friends. Removed the busted front driveshaft, adjusted the mirrors, and did burnouts around my yard Then, i ordered the brake caliper for the passenger side as this one is rusted solid. Hopefully after today, she will have brakes and maybe all the lights will work!!!! Anyway, on to the pic drop.
Got the headlights all wired up. There she is sitting all pretty!!!!!

Re: Spitfire
I have an issue. Truck cranks great when cold. Fires right up. But when hot it cranks then grinds and acts almost like it's dead. Help.

Re: Spitfire
Sounds likes it needs a new starter. Its no charge and not a lot of time to pull it and take it to parts store for a load test.

Spitfire
Nice rig and kudos for hanging on to her until you could get her running .
I'd have loved to go to any H.S. event in a nice rig like this instead of my battered old VW Beetle .

Re: Spitfire
only issue is its brand new lol. Also on the master cylinder do you fill the rear chamber up? Or does it stay empty.

Re: Spitfire
I almost sold her but right as the guy got there I changed my mind. He understood. Accrual bought a fourwheeler I had in the weeds off me instead. He just wanted to fix something up with his boy. I can't wait I have two local clubs wanting me to pull their floats in the hoco parade. Word spreads A QUICK in a small town lol. Especially when ya can hear the truck a mile away.

Re: Spitfire
FWIW ;
These i6 engines are very softly cammed so as long as you run the tailpipe to the back bumper you needn't use any muffler at all . I remember freighting heavy loads up the hills in Beverly Hills and Brentwood, passing cops who never gave me a second glance . Or, you can find re pop Smitty's glass packs that are 46" long, they'll give a nice deep rumble but not be too noisy .

Re: Spitfire
Fill it up! You should have bled it on the bench per the instructions if you were replacing it. It shouldn't be empty now unless you have a leak. Put fluid in it, bleed it, and then stand on the pedal with both feet as hard as you can. Wherever the leak is, it will show up. It won't be only your life that is saved if you make the brakes work properly. Any vehicle I've ever had, even if they were dogs they've always had excellent brakes.
