Where can I find a tow hitch that will fit behind my sport bumper on my short bed?
I have been searching and searching for a hitch that I can bolt onto my 1987 Chevy 1/2 ton short bed. I have a sport bumper and I would like the receiver hitch to be behind the license plate. Are there any hitches out there that will fit my truck with out having to modify everything? I have been searching forever with no luck. Thanks!

Thinking about using this one and just cutting it to size...

used a jeep wrangler or old full size car gas flipper plate holder and added the rubber bumper to the center to hold plate stright and also off hitch reciver when it place . and as you see you can hide a 7 round / 4 flat socket 100% behind the plate .
also some require a long reach reciver unit cause they set back in a bit more than normal .

I have one on my 77, I don't recall where I ordered it from, but it looks exactly like this one.
http://www.x2industries.com/hidden-h...2#.W5KEeehKiUk You will need an extended hitch to actually use it, like this... https://www.etrailer.com/Ball-Mounts...tch/80232.html Robbed a flip down tag bracket from a junkyard Caprice, works great. |

Talk to a custom hitch place. The price might be cheaper then you expect. I had one made for my 75 that comes out mostly above the normal bumper to better match a couple of military trailers. IIRC, price was about $120 at J&I Hitch in OKC. I had the bumper and spare out of the way when I took the truck to them so saved some labor costs.

I just ordered one from X2 for my 75. Real nice people. The hitches are custom made at the time of order. I ordered with the flip down license plate too. We shall see what it looks like when it gets here next week.

Re: Where can I find a tow hitch that will fit behind my sport bumper on my short bed
I already had a hitch on my truck that sat under the sport bumper. I cut off the receiver tube and welded it onto the top so it goes through the license plate mount now. The “crossmember” on the hitch that the receiver tube is welded to sits about .5” under the bumper and doesn’t bother me. Took an afternoon to do and no money

@4shongo
Did you ever receive your receiver hitch from these guys? How do you like it? Last edited by greenmtnboy; 05-26-2020 at 03:21 PM. |
