Interesting truck. 1983 crew

Found this in western Nebraska while picking up an old gator. Body in really good shape. I like 4wd trucks but thought about putting that service body seTup with crane on my dually. He wanted 2000 for it and said he could deliver it to Omaha as he was bringing a semi. It is a 2wd but has a 350 in it.

Interesting indeed, I wonder if it was a diesel originally. Delay wipers & cruise control, sweet!

It was originally a diesel by the vin. He thought it was a 350 and we did not pop the hood so I took his word. Now that I ran the vin it shows the diesel supposed to be in it. I also noticed the bumper has fog lights. How late did they make those? I know it could have been switched.

IN the bumper? Those are marker-turn signals which is 1981-1982 only; but since it had a 6.2 it is a 1982, the first year the engine was offered. The 6.2 was offered from '82-through square into early GMT400, 1993.

1gchc33j4ds148291 Was the vin. I am pretty sure it was converted to a 350 gas engine. The doors sagged a bit but the rockers and inner doors did not have rust. Missing a couple door panels. The crane brand is a woeber but I can’t find anything on it. Service bed is a Knapheide

Have you tried researching it as a man lift/bucket truck boom? There are a few things on there that make me think it is less crane boom, and more manlift boom.

Neat looking truck. I wouldn't mind having it in my drive way. I could justify it to the wife since I could use it to trim the trees.

If the body is as good as it looks in the pics, absolutely. If it runs n drives, you could.even walk away with little extra in your pocket.

Re: Interesting truck. 1983 crew

VIN says it is an 83, but grill/bumpers say it is an 82. UNless the C/30's lagged a year behind the grill/front end change of the C/10 & C/20.

Regardless, it is a clean truck and very cool looking. Is it in your driveway yet?

You guys are correct on that it is not a crane. I talked with the owner and he said he has a basket to attach to the end and that it extends out to double the length as pictured. He thought it was 30 feet. That would be pretty awesome for painting etc. We will see if it happens.

They did not; all of the models changed over at the same time.

For better or worse I am going to pick it up. It has a welder generator in the back but he is not sure if it is repairable. I think it is a miller AEAD. The lift looks like more of a glorified powered ladder. We will see. When I first saw it I wasn’t that serious so didn’t take as many picks as I should have. I am told the heads were rebuilt and installed but the distributor was installed off a tooth.
I know I need to replace the door hinges as the doors did sag. I will post more pics after it is delivered. Hopefully no ugly issues jump up.

Re: Interesting truck. 1983 crew

Hinge pins aren't a big deal to replace.
The repair parts are larger and require that you drill the hinges with the proper letter and number size bits.
The good kits have bronze bushings. Don't hammer them in they'll break. Press them in with threaded rod, nuts, washers, and a socket (or a stack of washers) that the shank of the bushing slides through and doesn't catch.

Thanks for all the great comments everyone. I am getting excited to see it again in a couple weeks. My fear is it might be a money pit but life is about taking risks. I know it will need some tlc but I am looking at this as more of a tool than making it perfect. Buying cheap is great but I know I don’t want junk. Contradictory isn’t it? As an optimist I always believe I can make it go with basic knowledge and hard work. Sometimes I win. Sometimes I don’t. Thanks again everyone.

I am missing the two rear door panels on the crew doors. They are manual windows. I have two door panels off of a suburban correct color but power window. Will they mount and is the hole in the right position? I know doesn’t match Scottsdale trim but better than a bare door.

Thanks.

Also noticed this date on the tag in the glove box. Does this make it a 1982 year?

Thanks.

White if they're like the fronts, I think they'll swap over.
