Shortening parking break cables

Hey, looking for some input on shortening or replacing rear parking break cables after shortwning the wheel base on my 61 gmc.

when i shortened mine i just doubled the cable back and put 4 (i think) cable clamps on it...been working fine for about 10yrs now

I cut the cable to length then cut down and drilled a bolt and welded it to the end of the cable.

Movie I was on We Bought a 62 GMC It was A Short Bed And we Streched Frame To 132 in Chassis And Who ever Shorted It Made Steel Rod Cables Pretty Chesse

Thanks all great suggestions, ended up with some shaft collars for $3.00 each, did the trick
