16in rims vs. 20in rims?

The Sub I just bought is a 90 2500 4x4 (V2500?) and the PO put some 20in rims on it with 305/55-20 tires. I need to replace the tires, they are getting down and I will have the money now to replace them.
From my research the 20in tires are not that different in price than the 16in that would be the same size (285/75-16). I would need to buy some rims, but I have found some used on CL that would work. I could sell the 20's to someone that wants them.
Is there any advantage, to keeping the 20's, or getting rid of the 20's? At first I really hated them, but now I am not too sure if I hate them or like them.
Here is the picture of it at the dealer.

Of course mine is a truck, not a Burb, but I hated the 20” wheels. Same here, it was the PO that put them on there. It took several years, but I finally bought new wheels & tires. I went with 18’s. It rides so much nicer. I’m sure the 16’s will too, because you’ll have more tire. Here’s the Before & After on my 86 truck.

If you are using it as a truck then go back to the 16s. BTW, if I had those rims they would have been ditched immediately.

Re: 16in rims vs. 20in rims?

What I really want is stock steel rims, widened to fit the larger 16in tires and use the stock dog dish hub caps.
How wide of rims do I need with a 285 75 16? 8in?

you can get stock 16" wheels for hubcaps 9-10 inches wide from summitracing.

Other than looks, big rims are not good for much. I prefer to have a more tire sidewall than huge truck wheels.

Re: 16in rims vs. 20in rims?

I would go with a minimum 9" width. That is what I have on my dodge with 285's and the tread sits flat on the roadsurface. I have 315's on my K20 with 8" rims and the tread is crowned quite a bit.

We have a blazer here on some 16x10s from wheel vintiques. They give a good look to the vehicle imo:

Re: 16in rims vs. 20in rims?

I got rid of the 20in rims in favor of some stock 16in wheels, painted white. No caps yet, but I will get those someday.
Right now the wheels are stock 6.5in, with on, a Ford wheel is a 7in.
I want to replace the other 3 with the Ford 7in wheels, it will work better.
