New guy from South Texas-67K20
I'm Jory, I'm 24, from Victoria, Texas (halfway between Houston and Corpus Christi).
I'm a new member here but a long time visitor of this site. My Cousin is on here with his '70 (americanmusc11e) and he is responsible for my addiction to 67-72 trucks. I bought this truck a few months ago with no engine from a friend of mine. It's a 67 K20; it has a 70 cab and fenders on it that were put on years ago (late 90's maybe?) that's why it doesn't have the small window. But that didn't matter to me. It was an old farm truck from Wyoming----so if anyone here recognizes it let me know!--- This truck has the closed knuckle axle, SM420 trans, and the big HO52 rear end. It has a heavy duty flatbed on it for now, but the guy I bought it from GAVE ME a perfectly good lwb fleetside bed for it. So I plan on swapping that later, as well as swapping the axle for a later model open knuckle steering that way I can have disc brakes and a better turning radius. I rebuilt the brakes and prepped it for its new engine. I bought a 99 suburban engine for 400 bucks (vortec 350-not LS) this motor was rebuilt and put into an airboat years ago, but was only run for a few hours (10-15 is what I'm told) and by the looks of the internals I believe it. Just a few days ago I finished the install and took it on its first test drive. Needless to say I was pretty happy with it. Here she is: still havn't named her but that's ok, my wife just calls it the '67 or the mistress. Here's a link to the Facebook page I made for the truck. https://www.facebook.com/Jorys-67-K2...5827443118996/ |

Hi everyone I'm Dave from northern Michigan.
I'm new to these for forums. I can't believe there's that much interest in panel trucks. I'm restoring a 1967 GMC panel. I was hoping to get information when i need it. You guys sound pretty knowledgeable on them. |

Re: New guy from South Texas-67K20
Update:
I've owned the truck for a year already, no big complaints. I've put a few miles on it and I've been very impressed with how well the 53 year old chassis drives all things considered. The 350 is doing well, around Christmas time, I got the opportunity to put it on a dyno and I was not surprised to find that this old "air boat motor" is quite wore out. It didnt even make 150 whp. Although looking back I realize it might have been better if my timing had been right. I recently found that my distributer clamp was installed upside down, allowing the distributer to turn with minimal effort. So my timing was very likely off which may have caused the low hp output on the dyno. I decided to keep the flatbed. I plan to make this truck a hauler for my race truck, and the old "hay truck" look kinda grew on me. I built some wooden sides for it to keep stuff from rolling off, and yes it happened a few times before I built them. The "hay truck" look inspired me to install an old tractor style fuel filter for looks (have a real filter on the frame) along with some other minor details to give it the "fresh out of the field" look. The truck has been to several car shows and cruises, I even took 2nd place at one. The plan is to upgrade to more modern brakes and possibly a different transmission so I can haul my ford ranger to the track with it. I bought a disc brake conversion kit for the rear axle but the front may end up getting a open knuckle axle from a later model. I figured thatd be easier and I'll get a better turning radius anyway. On top of that my cousin gave me some 6 leaf springs off of a c30 so those will get put on the rear to replace to factory 3 leaf springs. What reminded me to update my thread was my cousin updating his 10 year old thread. Lol check it out here. My ranger is mentioned there and there's lots of pics of the truck that inspired me to buy this one. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=687878 Last edited by JoryS67K20; 07-01-2020 at 01:59 AM. |

Re: New guy from South Texas-67K20
I'm a photo junkie so heres a few more for the July 2020 update.
I forgot to mention in the main update that I did build a decent exhaust for the truck using part of the original piping. I didnt have room to go over the axle and out the back with the tank relocated to the back so It exits in front of the rear tires. Looks ok cuz of the flatbed and sounds amazing. Not too loud, not too quiet. I put the insulation and carpet that it came with back in for now cuz the sm420 is so noisy I was just trying to quiet it down a little in the cab. The air brushed elk scene on the glovebox is probably gonna stay since the truck was from up north originally. Also Covid-19 sucks and I cant wait till we can have big car shows again. Re: New guy from South Texas-67K20
Well I've officially owned the K20 for 2 years today. So far no major upgrades or complaints, I did manage to scoop up a 67 passenger fender with nice patina. 2 days ago I even took home 1st place in my category in a local car show.
Ive spent the last 8 months focused on building my wife a car show c10. I traded my LS swapped ford ranger for a 1965 suburban roller that already had an 02 tahoe leather interior. I threw a wore out 350 in it and then decided that wasnt going to work. So i bought a donor Tahoe and yanked the 4.8/4l60e. it fit well and the swap was super easy. Towards the end of the project I came across a killer deal i could not pass up. A 1971 c10 that belonged to my coworker. Had been parked since 1990. I had to have it, so I bought it for cheep cheep and turned around and sold it. Finished up on the Suburban build and beat myself up for not keeping the 71. First REAL test drive in the burban and it shattered the driveshaft. My friend who I sold the 71 to called me that day and asked if I wanted to buy it back. When my wife overheard the convorsation she got excited and told me to get it back whatever it took. So the suburban got sold and the 71 came back home. Heres the 2020/2021 photo dump

We need to get this moved to the appropriate forum so it will get more views. Not everyone hits the welcome part of the board.
