Starter issues again

I installed powermaster gear reduction starter about a year ago and all has been fine until it started just giving a click from the solenoid sometimes when turning the key and firing up without issue other times. It will start with 2 or 3 tries sometimes and others just solenoid clicks and wont start for 20 minutes or so .I thought it was heat related but has done it a couple of times from stone cold in the morning and started fine from with the motor well and truly hot.
I have ordered a heat shield for the starter but it does not act like a heat problem.Any other suggestions?
