ford vs ferrari

I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this, so if not, the moderators can take it down.
Friday night my wife told me she wanted to take me to a movie Saturday and we would go see Ford vs Ferrari. She knows what a car nut I am but she really could care less.
This is a really well done move about Ford vs Ferrari's bid to win LeMans in the mid 60's. Yes, there is some artistic license taken, but the overall story is great and the race photography is fantastic. I would say its better than Grand Prix and almost as good as American Graffiti. It may well become one of the all time great car classics.
Id rate it a 3.5 out of 4. Go enjoy it if you can.

Re: ford vs ferrari

Saw it yesterday, great movie. Didn't know much about Ken Miles but now I know a little more. Sorry he didn't get a chance to race again for his just reward the following year.

Re: ford vs ferrari

I may have to actually go see that one. I am not a big movie goer though.

Remembering that in 1966 My dad and I rode up to Lake City Ford one afternoon and checked out the Ford GT 40's and the Cobras that they had on display on the lot. Probably about 3 million bucks worth of rolling stock at today's prices. The GT 40 went for around 20K and the 289 Cobras were about 14 K and that was huge money then. You could buy a new Corvette off the lot for under 5 K.

Re: ford vs ferrari

My wife and I just saw Midway and saw the preview for Ford vs ferrari. The preview did really catch my interest but I may have to check it out. My wife's company had their annual convention in San Diego Ca. 2 years ago and the Midway Ship museum was shut down for company people only. We ate supper on the flight deck of the Midway at night. Great time.

Re: ford vs ferrari

You can scroll down and watch the trailer here https://orioncinemayakima.com/ The theater I'll probably go to to see it.

My daughter's guy works there. It is a show your ID to get in the door over 21 theater that also serves food and drinks at your seat/table in the theater. Something like the Alamo theaters that are in Texas and some other states that my nieces hubby works for.

Re: ford vs ferrari

We did a Ford v Ferrari party with 14 people at our house. Some of us dressed in racing attire. I grilled "concession food". The basement is a man cave with lots of neon, car pics, etc. We bought the movie tickets in advance and all sat together. Even the women had a blast!

We saw Midway three nights later, and F v F blew it away. Damon and company are in for some awards...

Re: ford vs ferrari

Just caught it myself last week. Had the whole theater to myself for a matinee. I loved it! Loved seeing gear heads and passionate people getting the limelight and it did show how much check writers in corporations get all the credit for other people's work. Gave me a new appreciation for GT40's and Ken Miles.

Re: ford vs ferrari

I thought the movie was well done, other then if you watched closely, there was a bunch of Small Block chevy parts. And everyone knows that Caroll Shelby hardly, if ever, touched anything Chevy.
Other than that it was well done

Re: ford vs ferrari

the wife and I saw FORD vs. FERRARI and as expected, I loved it. I didn't see much SBC stuff, I guess I was so in awe of seeing all the AC Cobras running all over the place. The screwing Ken Miles got was a sore spot with me what Ford and his exec. did to him.

After seeing the movie I watched a couple of taped interviews with Shelby. According to him, he and Bebe together (unlike as portrayed in the film) came up with the idea of all 3 GT40s crossing the finish line together. On the spot, the LeMans staff created the rule on how to prevent ties causing Miles not to be credited with the win. Shelby regretted that decision all the rest of his life.

My wife is a Shelby fan and made sure we went to the movie! My neighbors dad owns Shelby Racing Engines (bought from Shelby before his death). He is the number one Shelby Cobra dealer in the world. Visit https://denbestemotorsports.com/ to see his show room. We LOVED the movie!!!!

Re: ford vs ferrari

I saw it in an Imax theater the weekend it came out. Knew most of the story. Loved the racing scenes, was interesting that Ferrari allowed their cars to be used and beaten. In the movie LeMans they had to use aftermarket bodied Lolas (if memory serves me right) because Enzo would not allow the real cars to be used. The movie could have done a better job of explaiining that Miles wife was also a race driver (rallys) so she understood the passion and risk.
