4.8 setup with 4L60 and 4.10 gears
My truck has 4.10 gears with a Yukon locker. I have a 4.8 and 4l60 to power it with. Looking for opinions on how to add power to the 4.8.
My first thought was since it has 4.10s I could add a good cam and tune to make great top end power to 7000 and let the 4.10s help on the low end. The other option would be leave the engine stock and put a turbo on it and tune it to 425hp or so by limiting the boost and tuning. I’m aware that turbos and 4.10s aren’t particularly suited for each other and you don’t get max potential out of the turbo with such numerically high gearing, but it would be fun. I am also aware that 4l60s don’t like big HP. I think it will be fine with under 450 and I could always swap to an 80 if it goes out. School me. Give me options. I want to keep the 4.10s. They are in good shape and are what came in the truck.

The tuner I use put a 4.8 in a monte carlo..he put a LS3 top end on it..small cam, and headers...said it turned out around 425hp

Re: 4.8 setup with 4L60 and 4.10 gears
I don't think you can put LS3 heads on a 4.8. The 4.8 cylinders are too small for the big valves in the LS3 heads. Check over on LS1 tech.
You could bolt on a set of ported LS6 heads and a small cam along with headers. Just be careful with boost with stock 4.8 pistons. They are cast not forged. |

I don't know personally if the LS3 stuff will work...just what I was told...I know the intake looked like my LS3 one does
