1971 C10 - Need a new carb
I'd like to get an aftermarket carb for my c10 (not a remanufactured Holly ). I've been thinking about going with an Edelbrock with an electronic choke.
Does anyone on this list have an opinion about, or experience with this carborator? Or does anyone have another recommendation? |

Assuming you have a 350, an Edelbrock 1406 (600cfm electric choke) would be perfect for your engine. They are great carbs...i have one and love it.
I used to have a cheapo quadrajet on my truck remanufactured by holley, and had constant problems with the choke not working and the carb icing over in cold weather. Made the truck a pain to drive. With the Edelbrock, a few pumps of the gas and the truck starts right up and goes in cold weather. Eddys are also very easy to tune and adjust...great carbs for daily drivers

Edelbrock make a great carb. You can bolt it on straight out of the box and she's ready to run.

It hasn't been running long, but my Edelbrock works great so far.
I'm running the 500cfm (#1404, w/manual choke) on my little 307

.....and I'm running the Edelbrock 1901, which is a NEW Quadrajet. I pulled an Edelbrock 1401 off of my engine and put the new 1901 on it and never looked back. I've not made even one adjustment to it....and it can be tuned.
Edelbrock has a great web site with lots of tech help available, as well as PDF files for the manuals.

I bought a used edelbrock 1405 (manual choke) off of ebay for about 100 bucks. I ned to rejet it but It starts easy and runs great as is.
I'll side with the popular opinion, you can set 'em & forget 'em. It's a great simple carb for a daily driver. One downside, is that quadrajet will probably get you better mileage than the performer series (assuming that you can keep your foot out of it )
