Need Two Retainer Clips
Hello Guys,
This liftgate has to be one of the most time consuming projects of the entire rebuild! I broke the original handle attempting to get it off. I broke the little nib on the lockset tumbler, and of course this was after I had it re-keyed. The original clips holding the rods in place were pretty much toast when I pulled them apart. Now, I'm in dire need of the correct clips that hold the release rods into the back of the hatch handle. I have attempted to adapt several other types of retainer clips (Carburetor, and door mechanism rods), to the rod and the handle mechanism, yet they fall off and will not hold them securely. Does anybody have two of the correct clips they can part with? I'm more than willing to pay for them and to also pay for 2 day shipping! I provided a picture to assist with what I'm referring too. I'm almost to the point of removing them and drilling small holes for a cotter pin, but I don't really want to do it that way. Especially concerned about the rods falling off when the liftgate is in the closed position. Then I would really be in a bind! Thanks, Pat |

Re: Need Two Retainer Clips
Door clips should work, there is 2 different clips in the doors, what I will call a right and left. The tab that holds the rings together will be on opposite sides. The only difference with the original is the tab holding the rings is straight. I haven't been able to find them new but the left and right can be purchased almost anywhere.

Re: Need Two Retainer Clips
Thanks Guys,
I went ahead with the door clips, but had to bend them a bit to get them straight. It seems like all the one's I have been working with offset the rod. I know it's spring steel, and I broke a couple, but was able to work a few so that they would work. Thanks, Pat |
