pinion angle ,will this work
Getting spring pads welded on a Ford 9 inch for my 78 2 wheel dr. Blazer with a AOL bag set up. Current angles at ride height now are 5 -tranny 3.5 Dr.shaft 1 at pinion, all down. This has worked for over 15 years. I know this wrong but at the time when I flipped the rearend we just welded on new pads sorta even with the old pads. Now I sorts understand the pinion angles, so If I get the new pads on the 9 in. welded at 5 down and have 5 still at the tranny, will I still have 3.5 at the driveshaft. If so, this should work giving me a working angle of 1.5 at both ends. I do have room to shim the tranny. Is a454/450 hp with T. 350

Re: pinion angle is this right ?
Not an expert on this but from what I learned chasing a vibration problem I once had is you want the angle at one end to cancel out the angle at the other end. So if the trans tailshaft is angled down 3 degrees you want the pinion on the rear to angle up 3 degrees. If you drew a line following the angle out the tailshaft and one out the differential following the pinion angle they should run parallel and never touch.

Re: pinion angle is this right ?
Correct..pinion up, trans down...but I would personally shoot for trans down angle 3deg..pinion up angle 3deg..
That's how I do mine when starting from scratch.. 3 and 3 Since your on bags I assume your riding low..you also want to avoid no ujoint angle..

Re: pinion angle is this right ?
Thanks, I was getting mixed up on how some people talk about slope when doing your math on operating angles
