Frame question 1/2 ton vs 3/4 ton

I have a 1/2 ton long bed 4x4 and I was wondering if it's worth it to you upgrade to a 3/4 ton frame I have 3/4 ton axles and springs. Going to be doing some towing. Any thoughts or advice thanks

I think the frames are the same on the 4x4 1/2 + 3/4 tons.

As far as towing it depends on where you draw the line. If its a ocasional 7000 pounds i don't see it worth the effort. If it is alot of towing, and closer to 9000 pounds then a 3/4 ton will be the ideal choice.

What are the 3/4 ton differentials you have out of?

I've never had a K20 but the C10 and C20 frames are not the same. The C20 is stamped from heavier gauge steel and has extra bracing.

½ ton 2WD: 6-1/32 x 2-1/2 x 5/32

¾ ton 2WD: 6-1/8 x 2-17/32 x 3/16

One ton 2WD: 8-1/8 x 2-13/16 x 3/16

½ ton 4WD 115” WB: 8-1/32 x 2-25/32 x 9/64

½ ton 4WD 127” WB: 8-1/8 x 2-13/16 x 3/16

¾ ton 4WD: 8-1/8 x 2-13/16 x 3/16

As you can see, even the ½ ton 4WD long bed uses the same size frame member
as the one ton 2WD.

½ ton 2WD: 5-15/32 x 2-1/4 x 1/8
¾ ton 2WD: 7-3/16 x 2-3/4 x 3/16
½ and ¾ ton 4WD: 7-13/64 x 2-3/4 x 3/16

I have a 63 K10 long bed so going by that chart I'll be fine, just need to install my 3/4 ton axles in springs

Could someone please verify that the frame for the 4x4's are actually 8 inches tall?

I can check tomorrow ,66 K 20 4x4 and let you know.

Confirmation: My 66 K 20 frame is somewhere between 8-8.25 measured from about the center under the cab. Didn't want to roll around in the snow to check further!

I wonder if they made the frame taller because a 4x4 may need to resist more twisting.
