speedometer likes to bounce...
spedo didn't work, pulled out old cable, it was broken so I went to get a new one. Put the new one in and the speedometer bounces like crazy. It's so bad I'll be doing around 40 and the speedo is pegged at 100! I get this continuous "ding, ding ,ding ding" sound at the speedometer. I took the cable out of the jacket and shot some lithium grease down into the jacket, still no change. Is it the lack of lube or a bad speedo?
What should I use for lube?

I would guess its lube issues.
Also make sure it is seated properly, and that you have the right speedo cable. Typically the speedo isn't at fault as far as I have seen so far.

Your cable in the jacket might be bent. Mine did the same thing and now it just doesnt work period. Go to your GM parts dealer and order a new one. Dont use aftermarket cheap ones, they will just do the same thing.

yeah, I'm on my second cable, I didn't route the first one right and it roasted on my headers. So what should I use to lube it? How much are GM cables?

Ok...just called my local chevrolet dealer and they want $44.25 for the 1 foot extension cable that hookes into the trans. My upper cable is good. But I don't want to spend that kind of money for a foot long speedo cable. So I'll stick with the one I have and lube the hell out of it.

Cable connection at trans not fully inserted and tightened.
Cable connection at gauge not fully inserted and tightened. Cable routing is too tight, make larger bends in cable for smooth operation. Lube cable inside of cable sleeve. Gauge may be damaged. Pull gauge out and run with electric drill to see if needle bounces then. Autozone sells some nice long cables for our trucks at a fair rice.

Yeah, I got myself one of those longer one piece cables for about $12. I'll stick some graphite on there later and run it with a drill.

Thanks for you replies, I got everything to work, put a whole tube of graphite powder on it. Works great now!
