53 Chevy Truck is on the Road

Our 53 Chevy truck is on the road. Still a few more things to finish up, but it is licensed and safety inspected. I am finding the front a little low (front bumper is about 5" above the road).

Congratulations, looks great.

First time I have seen those Corvette wheels on an AD, they look really good.

Thanks. I lucked out on the Corvette alloy wheels. Truck came with Corvette rally rims which I sold for $500 and bought the Corvette alloy wheels in great condition for $500. My deals don't usually work out that good.

Pictures look great and show a nice stance. As long as you can fit a beer can under the front bumper should be good right?!

Thanks. I have running board brackets that have a vertical piece hanging down. When my truck was on the four post lift to get the dual exhaust, the running board brackets got stuck on the top of the ramp for the four post lift.

The height of the truck is not bad driving down the road, but a bit of a pain when jacking it up or getting onto a lift with ramps.

Looks great, congrats. More low > less low.
That's always my feeling.

Enjoy

Re: 53 Chevy Truck is on the Road

Thanks for all the comments guys. This was our first project with this level of work required (truck was down to the bare frame). Lots of fabrication.

Re: 53 Chevy Truck is on the Road

I was surprised when I first finished my truck and discovered my 5-inch-high bumper wouldn't get out my own driveway. Talk about building oneself into a corner!

Thanks Jim. Not sure if you remember, but you helped me out with a few questions a couple years ago. Your truck was an inspiration (but it will take about 10 more projects to get near your quality of truck)

If I recall it was a couple years back, about welding up the hood. Thanks for the compliment, don't cut yourself short, you did great work on your truck...Jim

Re: 53 Chevy Truck is on the Road

The bottom of my bumper has a lot of scrap marks from when the front was really low.

That was after we got hung up on a grocery store driveway in Bountiful Utah on the way to the Chevy--Gmc Trucking nationals in Ogden that year.

This was the first Saturday of October in 1982. At the Vintiques UN Run.

Not many trucks can pull off those corvette wheels, but yours does it fantastically!

I like your truck for several reasons, but the lights in bumper, set it off. Great job.
