1957 Chevy Pickup inside door panel fastener issue
While attempting to take the door panel off to replace my window regulator I sheared off two of the retaining screw heads. In an attempt to drill and use a screw extractor, the nut popped off the backside of the door. It seems like it was held on by some sort of flange. What have others done to fix this. Is there replacements that can be installed or plastic plug / nuts like those used in drywall be used. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: 1957 Chevy Pickup inside door panel fastener issue
What i have seen done is a Rectangular (Say 1/4" Or Less ) Piece of Steel with a Hole drilled in it and then Tapped to the size screw you need, Then Drill holes to the Outside
of were your square hole was, position the plate from behind (you could use a Bolt to hold it in the center, Then Mig weld the holes plug welding the plate in place. Just something i have seen that was used in a situation like yours! Might also be able to put a Rivet Nut in its place also? |

Re: 1957 Chevy Pickup inside door panel fastener issue
You may be able to install a Nutsert into that opening. Nutserts are like rivets and are threaded internally to accept a bolt. You might also weld a nut to a piece of flat steel then pop rivet the steel to the inside of the door. That section is under the door panel, yes? So it's not visible when the panel is installed?

Remove the old nut and pop in a cage nut. They are commonly available at hardware stores.
