Radio bulb

I have a 87 chevy wrangler which has a Electronic AM/FM Cassette radio. I cannot see what time it is or what station i am on anymore. Do these radios have a bulb that you can change for the display?

Re: Radio bulb

I'm sure they do.

I recently had an old Pioneer shaft AM/FM Cassette worked on and there were two bulbs in there that backlit the digital display and the buttons.

They are called "grain of wheat" bulbs, if you wanted to do a web search.

Re: Radio bulb

Another option was a small base bayonet bulb ran somewhat below its normal voltage to increase lifespan. Pretty sure I have seen some radios in Pull-a-part that used the dash light bulb type setup. I think that most of the bulbs were replaceable but were normally considered a "life of the vehicle" thing and ease of replacement wasn't really a consideration.

If that radio is aftermarket, it may be new enough for the lights to have been LED.

Re: Radio bulb

If its stock cassette for 87 GM it's easy to take the faceplate off and change the 2 bulbs but you have to pull the radio out of the truck.
Just remove the two flat nuts on the volume and tuning controls and the faceplate comes right off.
Not sure of bulb part number, but they are actually similar to a 'grain of wheat'.
