hubcap question

I have a 69 gmc half ton 4x4 suburban, I would like to find a set of correct hubcaps for it, and I'm having problems finding them and starting to think they were not offered?

did they make a half-ton, 4x4 hub PAINTED hub cap? I have seen some chrome...no paint.

attached are the chevy version..may be 3/4 ton but they did make the 1/2 ton. and this is the correct GMC cap, with black background...i think!

You will have to go with chrome (69-72) or stainless (73-76?) for 4x4 hubcaps, GM did not make any that were painted, neither 1/2 or 3/4 ton.
If you see a painted set, the fronts are home made.

The GMC cap with black background is correct for 70 - 72, 69's would be silver and black.

Re: hubcap question

That's right, Dave, no painted 4wd caps. If chrome caps weren't optioned, no caps. The ones showed look like 8-luggers.

Good to see you post here. Been a while since I've seen your name. How's that beauty of a Longhorn doing? Oh, and how have you been? And have you been treating that pair of caps right? Keep on truckin'!

Re: hubcap question

FYI painted caps are usually metal ( magnet test ) early chrome caps are brass then changed to stainless in later years. Nothing wrong with converting a white set to 4x4 caps.

Re: hubcap question

That sounds really cool. A stock looking Dark Blue '72 Custom/20 Longhorn, white trim and all, with modern go. A different kind of sleeper. I'm just glad to hear you are hanging on to it. How many years have you owned it now? Makes me feel good about my feeling those N.O.S. caps belonged on that truck.

So, what's this 3/4t 4wd GMC? Welcome to the club. BTW, Duallyjams did a nice job making '68 painted steel caps to fit the '70-'72 Spicer lockouts. Rolled edges and all. Looks factory

For sure those caps belong on the old girl, they aren’t going anywhere! I’ve had it since 2000. Wow time flies!

She could use some paint soon, but Still in great shape!

I bought a suburban a month ago..I’ll slowly be building it up. Same sort of theme, looking as stock as possible, mechanically bit more modern..

Suburban, huh? You know we need pictures... of both! I miss seeing your Longhorn and many have never seen it. The Suburban I'm (and I'm sure we're) very curious about. This thread is about more than hubcaps now!

I'll squeeze this one in. Another coulda shoulda scenerio? Hard to find these, but I found it. No painted hubcaps on '67-'72 4x4. PO3 chrome hubcap option was available '69-'72 4x4's.

Re: hubcap question

I think in the later half of this style trucks (67-72) most trucks got the hubcap option. I don't recall seeing new trucks without hubcaps and never knew base trim trucks came w/o hubcaps till we got into the nitty gritty of these trucks here, which made me realize I never saw painted 4wd caps before (until people started making their own). I do distinctly remember seeing the 67-69 trucks new without hubcaps

Back when trucks were needed to work.

Nowadays the guys ordering their trucks often seem more picky and superficial than their wives...

Ok, now I believe you Nice job. It somehow looks right I like the picture it creates, the sweet survivor rolling along under modern power. GM did it right again when they did the LS motors. Nicer old big rigs get re-power upgrades. This is the same thing in smaller scale

Somehow it seems your post fits. Cool Blazer, utility options! Fits in with Dave's trucks.

Another coulda shoulda moment. These mirrors should have been included in the Custom Camper package. Did these mirrors debut in '69 or '70? Thinking '70.
