fuel pump installation
I've been trying to replace my fuel pump and can't get the push rod to stay up long enough to install the fuel pump. I've tried rubbing grease around the rod, but it still won't stay. Wondered if anybody had any better ideas. Thanks.

Theres a short bolt on the front of the engine, remove it and find a longer one and tighten it until it holds the push rod up. It's right in front on the fuel pump side.

passenger side block on front there are two holesin a vertical pattern if you stick a longer bolt in the upper hole while pushing the rod up the bolt will hold the rod up. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN the bolt just enough to hold it up.

All you have to do is put some heavy grease on the rod and it will stay up. Ive seen this quick-fix in magizines before, and ive tried it so i know it works.

Also make sure the rod is all the way up by bumping motor over--makes putting the pump on much easier.

I must be lucky, because I never have a problem putting in the fuel pumps. I just put the rod in, put the rod on th lever of the fuel pump, and slide it up until the holes align. Then I start a couple of bolts to hod it in place. I've heard the bolttrick, but I didn't want to push a bolt through where it didn't go and mess up the block.

i just hold it up with a screw driver then stick the pump lever in under the rod and then pull out the screw driver

Mine doesn't have a bolt hole, so my brother-in-law used his finger and quickly got it on there... okay it took him a couple of tries (while he bi@ched and moaned about no bolt hole)... but he got it.

All good ideas.....have to admit never heard of the bolt or using grease.

You can use a hacksaw blade also to hold the rod up.
