350 Starter brace

Does anyone have a picture of the starter mounting brace on a 350? I had one of my bolts shear off last week, so I cant start my truck until I get the threads out of the block. I have a brace, but on my aftermarket 350(in it when I bought the truck), there isn't a bolt for it. I'm not sure the one I have will work, and I can't work on it since it's been raining since last night.
My truck is and 84 Sierra C2500 350/TH400.
Thank You for any help and pics you can post and Happy New Year

Re: 350 Starter brace

Those braces always disappear for some reason. I don't think any of my trucks have one. I haven't broken any starter bolts though. Yours must have worked loose somehow.

Re: 350 Starter brace

Thanks, guys. I have a similar brace, but the part that goes on the starter is a hole, not slotted like the image. Anyways, my engine is an aftermarket Goodwrench 350 and I didn't see a bolt to mount the brace on the block to. If it stops raining long enough, I will go look again.

Re: 350 Starter brace

Here is a picture of the one on Dad's 77 GMC with a 400 small block.

This one has the same brace as yours (hole instead of slot) and I believe that may be a difference in the braces for 153 vs 168 tooth flywheels/flexplates.

And from your picture, it looks like the bolt that is currently holding the dipstick bracket on your engine might also be the same one for the starter brace. Older blocks (like Dad's 400) had the dipstick on the driver side.

Thanks. I will get under it and see if it will work

Re: 350 Starter brace

Looks like your block is toast anyways with the outer portion partially broken off and a broken bolt in the hole

Re: 350 Starter brace

I think it was the heavy-duty starter mostly and how good fit mostly I know all 454 had it 350 if lighter starter with it and without, some you could tell it had been taken off. Some never had it. Lost if the starter had been replaced did not get put back all the time. if the block has the hole or the stud for it then and you want it add it helps take the weight off the snout much more need for 4x4 I think. I had 2wd's ,77 454 had. 75,77 350 large flex plate did not. on one of the 84 305's with the heavy-duty starter small flex plate. But seen a few 4x4 with.
