The purge has started

As I approach geezer age I have decided to start downsizing my collection.

So today a nice fellow stopped over and bought my 4wd A833 with shifter and the hydro clutch set up including the bell, pedal, etc, and a spare NP208 since his was a big input and that's not what the A833 takes.

Already sold all my SBC, BBC, LS, and 6.2 diesel stuff in order to focus on my L6's. One locked up 366 that is destined as a tractor weight lol.

Now to sell the rest of my transmission collection... 2wd A833, 700R4's, 2004R's, TH350C, Th350 with shaft and adaptor to replace 4wd 700R4, 3 speed, Clark 5 speed, and I those are just the ones I know about. And after that the transfer cases, NP208 big input, NP241, and I'm pretty sure there's another one in the shed.

Plus the 2wd frames and 1/2 ton axles and and and...

Anyone else in purge mode for spring?

Re: The purge has started

What size output shaft does a 4wd a833/np440 have? Same 32-spline as the sm465?

Does the a833 drop in place of the sm465? Or are any of the significant dimensions different?

Far better for things to go to someone with plans to use them then being frustrated every time you trip over something and are reminded of yet another "Haven't had time yet" project idea.

Recently did a smaller version of this with my collection of out dated computer systems and parts. None are old enough to be valuable. Think 15 year old Win 7 boxes and 300G sata drives. So far I am at a net shift of two less. Plus one of the kids of a friend likes the shiny bits out of disassembled hard drives.

Re: The purge has started

Yes, I started about a year and a half ago “purging”. 2 more squarebodies, my Cummins mega cab, gooseneck trailer, a 66 3/4 ton Chevy, a few 5.9 Cummins, and parts for about all the above is what I have left.
A daughter is taking interest in my 67 Camaro, so that will go to her. Working to turn my 84 K1500 into my daily, and build my wife an early Bronco and I’m done! Will help the youth as no one seems to be teaching them any mechanics nowadays, and buddies.

Or so is the plan.

A few months ago, I took my last BBC to a fellow my father in law served with in Vietnam. First time in almost 40 years I haven’t had a BBC on the place!

Re: The purge has started

I have an abandoned K5 in my yard I'm preparing to get rid of. I might let my friend from the junkyard have it.

Re: The purge has started

I've been in the parts acquiring mode lately and haven't had the time or nice enough weather to install them all

A833 has the small output shaft (700r4/TH350). As I recall the 4wd version will replace the SM465 noting that the Tcase input needs to be swapped. 2wd, I do not remember, but Gregski did a comparison in the A833 thread.

Re: The purge has started

Item of amusement - I have my dad's old truck in the field. This hasen't run in 15+ years. It's been used as a parts supply and scrap metal storage for the last 10 years at my place. This includes missing 1 fener, both doors, etc.

The A833 buyer needed a pedal bracket, so I agreed to swap him the ones from it for the auto pedals I need. I went to disconnect the clutch linkage under the hood. First, the hood release cable and latch still work! Just for fun I reached over, grabbed the belt, and darned if the motor didn't turn over! I bet a new distributor (pretty sure that was the issue), oil, and a cup of gas down the carb would get it running.

Just shows how tough these old trucks are.

I've got quite a few things lined up, but this crazy weather has not been too accommodating
