Wiper tubing what keeps it on
Maybe a dumb question but my windshield spray nozzle tubing keeps popping off. It's the one next to the windshield wiper, that supplies bugwash to the spray nozzle. The passenger side tube stays on fine, but the driver's side pops off all the time.
Any way to keep it on? Some kind of tiny band clamp? Thanks! |

Re: Wiper tubing what keeps it on
The hose is a little smaller than the push on fitting.
This creates a press-fit. If the hose is older? replace the one cause the issue. This would look the best. Or use a twist wire method. Careful not to snap the fitting by twisting it to tight. Or a real small hose clamp.

Re: Wiper tubing what keeps it on
Like Getter-Done mentioned, it’s a press-fit. If there is enough slack you can trim the end and get some fresh material to press on. I’ve also had good luck with small zip ties used as a hose clamp.

Re: Wiper tubing what keeps it on
If the cut off a bit and re-fit doesn't work, some motorcycle fuel lines use a small spring clamp. They are about the same size as the washer fluid tubing.

A small 3" zip tie will work, just trim the excess.

Re: Wiper tubing what keeps it on
maybe if its a new hose and its still a problem? maybe take off the metal line, and use a spring loaded center punch to flare the end of the tubing out a little bit..?
be less obvious than a zip tie or clamp and might be a good solution?

Re: Wiper tubing what keeps it on
Thanks for the replies all, I will just get some new tubing. Didn't know it was a press-fit.
Anyone happen to know the size? What would that be... 1/16" tubing perhaps? |

Re: Wiper tubing what keeps it on
The size depends on where you get it from anymore.
Do you have a local parts store Friend that can help you? That way you can test fit the tube.

Re: Wiper tubing what keeps it on
Take a piece of the old hose with you. Get rid of the last inch or so where it has expanded so the parts person sees a fresh end. Used to be you just asked for vacuum hose/washer hose. It was all about the same size across mfgs. Now it seems there are lots of 'special' sizes.

The trouble is, it has to fit down inside that spring on the inside of the wiper arm. If it wasn't for that, you could use thicker tubing. But that spring keeps you stuck with using 5/32 outer diameter tubing. |

Re: Wiper tubing what keeps it on
Check with a chainsaw/small lawn device repair shop. Some of the gas lines on those are about that size.

Re: Wiper tubing what keeps it on
So the inner diameter is 7/64". Outer 5/32". If anyone searches and needs that info, that's the size. Fits on my 87 truck, don't know if they're the same on all 73-87
I found some at a mom and pop parts store, but of course it's neon yellow. Can't use that because of it's location. I don't have a yellow truck. This one here might work, the wall thickness looks similar. It's close on both measurements, but I'm not sure if close will be good enough. 5/32" to mm is 3.9mm so 4mm would be fine. But 7/64" converts to 2.7mm. Not sure if using 3mm tubing is a good idea. Not hard to find 5mm OD, 3mm ID tubing. Don't wanna buy it if it won't work though. https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Nylon-...=3mm+ID+tubing |

Re: Wiper tubing what keeps it on
What you're looking for is 3/32" I.D. but is semi hard to find because so many distributors only carry metric hose. Gates makes the exact hose product you're looking for if you want your washer hose to snake through the arm springs like the OEM hoses were. It's Gates part# 27030 'wet arm vacuum hose' by name. If you are okay with zip-tying the hose underneath the arm any 3mm hose they carry will likely work.
I put a little info about it here on my blog: https://rixsquarebody.blogspot.com/2...-84-to-85.html

Re: Wiper tubing what keeps it on
That is still pretty thick, the hose I have looks more like the image in this pic:
https://www.amazon.com/MECCANIXITY-V...thin+wall+hose See how the wall is quite thin. Not the right size, but the image shows the correct proportions. Still haven't found anything yet, except for yellow weedeater fuel line. |
