Exhaust manifold angle?

Gathering parts and pieces to very soon drop in a 8 to replace the 6 in my 66 c10 and manifolds are on my mind currently. My question to you fine folks is which type is best suited for these trucks? Outlet straight down or angled? Downpipes come in either version but to get around clutch linkage or any other clearance issues is my concern. Shift linkage isn't a a concern since this is a sm420 floor shift and will stay floor shift with a new a tremec TKX when the motor goes in.

Re: Exhaust manifold angle?

As long as you're keeping the engine in the correct, v8 location for 60-66 trucks, you'll want to use the straight down manifolds. The angled ones were used on the 67-72 trucks that had the v8 sitting further forward in the truck than where the 60-66 v8s sit.

What six do you have? If you have a 230 or 250, you don't have to change the frame side of the engine mounts. If you have a 292, you'll need to change the passenger side, but the driver's side is the same.

Its a 250. When I bought the truck I was hoping for a 292 at lest but now I'm glad I didn't get it lol. Now after doing a bit of research I think I'm going to go with block hugger headers as the manifolds, which I prefer the look, rob 20+ hp and 40+ ft/lbs of torque. This was the style I had my eye on

Re: Exhaust manifold angle?

Those block huggers look like they'll fit somewhat similar to the factory straight down manifolds

Re: Exhaust manifold angle?

Option: 2.5" Corvette ramhorns They also come in a straight down configuration, I used them on my V8 with TH400

P.S. They can be found in the 283/327 truck version with drivers side alternator mounting as original

Yea that was my thoughts as well. They have that old school look I wanted with the manifolds but much better flow. Found a new set of stainless on marketplace for $125. I just need the guy to respond now
