Engine compartment decals

My engine compartment is still all original and in pretty good condition. A decal came off the shroud area before I got it (circled on the attached) and I’d like to replace it but can’t find what it should be or who sells replicas of it. The truck is a 1982 with a 305. Anyone have a reference for what decals there should be for my model and where I could get them? There is a second area (circled as well) that looks like it may have had a decal as well, but I’m not sure. The third circled area is because there looks to be two empty bolt holes and I’m looking into whether there is something missing there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The big spot is probably the engine tune up label.

I don't see anything in the generic info packet about the tune up labels so your best bet there is maybe somebody with a 305 can post theirs up.

I don't recall anything going in the smaller location. Perhaps it was a local shop oil change record or something of the sort.

I also don't recall anything going in those two holes. The radiator supports are used across a lot of applications and need to support every conceivable option, so sometimes there are holes and features that are not needed on your specific truck.

I screenshot these images from a Sam’s Space video of an ‘82 survivor with a 305, so I’m guessing that’s the decal I’m after. Anyone know if someone replicates them. I’ve checked all the usual suspects and haven’t found one yet. Also, the photos show some kind of brackets bolted into the two holes I was wondering about, but I can’t tell what they are for. Any ideas?

The bracket location is for a different/bigger radiator.

As far as the decal, there would be several different 305 cu in engines offered: manual, auto, 2bbl, 4 bbl, Federal Emissions, California Emissions, LD and HD (lower compression ratio with 4 bolt mains), etc. There would be a unique part number, broadcast code and (therefore) emissions label for each one.

I see four different 305 engines in the info packet I provided: 3 Federal (RPO L09, and two LE9's) and one California (LF3). I imagine the Federals could be had with either manual or auto; I would guess the California offering is automatic only. So probably seven different part numbers.

You could probably have the one shown reproduced and no one (except me and you) would know if it was correct for your application.

The broadcast code (CMD in your photo) would be stamped on the engine along with other identifying information, including engine build location and model year.

So the operator goes over to a bay that is full of racks and racks of engines (probably more than you've ever seen in one place in your entire life). You can tell him which one to choose, via the build manifest, and he can remember that he needs an "AF", instead of trying to remember 123455683, or manual/AC/California emissions, since he will do this nearly 500 times in one day.

Amazingly - I also have an '84 305 emissions label in my files. I have no idea why.

Thanks Keith. It’s a 305 4 barrel with ESC. I got the attached info on it 8 years ago, I think at your suggestion. And you’re right, if I printed the one you have and used it, no one could likely tell the difference. And someday I may find the correct one. The image you sent isn’t very clear. Any chance I could get I higher resolution file for it?

You could wander the junkyards as a new hobby, relentlessly searching for that elusive radiator support... endlessly looking for that perfect emissions sticker. You might even find one with a [ahem] "better" combination of featured information to suit your needs!
