K&N Air filters

Second time in 3 years my K&N air filter fell apart. Thet rubber ring that fastens to the round metal tube rotted/torn away. Any one have a better filter I can buy.
Part number HPR9891. Looks like the weight of the filter tore the rubber. Maybe I need to build a strap to support the filter. Thoughts.

Re: K&N Air filters

The number you gave is a Spectre filter, not a K&N. Are you sure K&N makes the filter for Spectre? I have had dozens of K&N filters over the years and never had one fall apart.

Re: K&N Air filters

The K&N I have on 98 Wrangler LS6/4L60E swap is 15 years old with zero issues.
I use K&N on all my LS swaps.

Re: K&N Air filters

from what I read K&N or vis versa owns Spectre. The problem seems to be the weight of the filter bouncing up and down when you drive it rips the rubber after a couple years. Looking for a different filter maybe not as heavy or even shorter that will bolt right up.

6 inch dia connection to air tube

The rubber is literally falling apart as I handle it. Ordered a new real K&N this morning. Will update.

Re: K&N Air filters

So one thing I always do is add a bracket that supports the air tube near the air filter.
Bracket is bolted to the head and to the bottom of the air tube. Not to the radiator support.

Re: K&N Air filters

thinking same thing. I will jb weld the bracket to the outside of end of filter (medal Part and bolt to box. My luck I would bolt it and the bolt would come loose and it would get sucked into the intake. LOL I am the Optimus.

Re: K&N Air filters

I JB weld the bolt from the inside of the air tube. Then just a nut and lock washer on the outside. The JB weld helps seal the tube around the bolt.
