Let's get this board hoppin!!!!
First of all I have a 49 5 window 3100 with lots of work to do. I bought it as a high school project for $50.00. I worked on it for 2 years and left for the Navy. That was in 1986. I havn't touched it in 10 years. All the body work is done, except for the cab, which is rusted pretty bad. The cab floor boards are completely gone. The door hinge pillars are rusted completely thru. I have a 400 chevy motor in it with the original 4 speed tranny and rear end. Now that age has set on me I want safety to be involved. I want to put disk brakes on the front and modern shocks. I will also mount the gas tank back under the frame like the 47-48's had. I have the rims already for it and would like some help from you other enthusiasts, so I don't have to buy new rims when I make this change. Can I find any disk brakes (that will fit the current conversion kits) that are 6 bolt lugs? And does anybody sell just the brackets for mounting modern shocks on the 47-49 trucks? The only thing I have seen has come in a package and costs big $$$$$......

Thanks ImpalaSS. I have checked them out. Actually I found the same rims that I have out of Summitt only in a 5 bolt. I just got their catalog yesterday. So now I can use the 5 bolt disc brakes. I will probably try and sell my 6 bolt rims that I have. Not sure if the company makes them anymore or not. Summitt doesn't have them available in a 6 bolt. US Wheel makes them.

Have you considered a nova-camero subframe front? Disc brakes, small block motor mounts, and ifs........

I have thought about the subframe, I guess I need to get back into it. the truck's been sitting in the barn for the last 10 years.....I'm currently helping a friend and a fellow board member work on his 67 panel. I'll have to wait to tear back into her until we're done with his. In the mean time I'll do some serious thinking as to what exactly I want to do. thanks for your reply dougn.
