kickdown cable problems
http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...56&prmenbr=361
i have that bracket. the throttle cable hooks up fine and is working great. in fact, i like the way the pedal feels more so then i did with the old 305. but i can not get the kickdown cable hooked up right. does anyone have a picture of which part on the CARB the cable hooks up to? should be the same for most qjets. the problem that i'm having is that the cable doesnt seem to be long enough |

When you move it to full-throttle does the cable adjust itself correctly?

The upper end of the kickdown cable has an adjustment block. You should be able to unlock it by prying the lock tab out. Then slide the cable foreward to allow connection. You then push the adjustment tab back in, and move the throttle to full throttle. This will cause the kick-down cable to auto adjust. Hope this helps. The cable should hook up to the bottom crank on the carb, so as you open the throttle, it pulls the kick-down linkage. Can you take any pictures?

I use a double spring mounted to the top of the crank, connected to the point where the throttle cable connects. And then mounted to a bracket which sits foreward of the carb. Seems to me that this setup will put less pressure on the throttle shaft, and thus prevent unnecessary wear. How far "to short" is the cable?

Sounds like the bracket is mounted wrong. The adjustment MIGHT get you two inches. Did you replace the cable?

wrong bracket. go to the boneyard, and look for a QJet/TH350 equipped car or trick with a bracket that bolts to the back 2 bolts on the carb. that's what i had to do to get mine to work.

If you cannot ge the cable extended out of the cable sleeve far enuf, you may have the wrong bracket or something. Hard to say without any pictures.

Just thought of this. You may have to leve the bracket dusconnected until you slip the kickdown cable over the carb stud. Then attach the bracke to the manifold. Maby this is why it appears to short. I cannot connect mine with the bracket attached to the manifold. Good luck!

this isnt mine, but its setup the same, just a different bracket. the kickdown cable on that carb is how its supposed to be. if you look you can see the connector in the bracket and the wire running the the throttle linkage. the cable on my kickdown cable is really short compared to that, i'm sure if i figure out how to adjust it, it will work fine.

Will your cable even reach into the bracket? Looks like it may be routed wrong in the pic you found. If it does, how far out of the sheath can you pull the cable?
