Lift question for 33's
Just wondering what amount of lift I'd need to get 33's under my truck. From what I've been reading a suspension lift seems to be the way to go. I just don't want to lift it more than I need to
Thanks

This depends on a lot of things, but I think 0" to 4" of lift work with 33's.
I'm running 33x9.50x15's with no lift, & no rubbing. I've read on this board that people run 33x12.50x15 with no lift and no rubbing with 8" wheels, and some rubbing with 10" wheels. As far as lifts, anywhere up th 4 inchs. I think if you go over four inches that 33's start to look a little small. (not to say that people haven't done it)

Well.. here's my truck
right now it's got 15x10" wheels. I'd like to put 33x12.50 TSL Thornbirds (always liked the look of those). I just don't want to end up lifting it too much and making it look goofy. I'd like enough lift for no rubbing and don't want a lot of wheel gap Thanks

Get 2.5" suspension kit for 33's. Most people run 4" and 33's but 2.5" will clear just fine. 2.5 actually looks better than 4" and 33's too I think. I think i'm going to put 35s on mine next time I buy tires.
Oh and BTW, Thornbirds are the crappiest tire ever made, why do you want to buy a tire that is already bald? Do yourself a favor and don't waste the money, the SSRs are great on the road and the Trxus M/Ts seem to be a good choice also.

go to pavement sucks, and search for "thornturd" i bet you'll find at least a dozen posts. they're not good at anything, except looking mean, and they dont to a very good job except for the outer lugs.

2.5" will be fine for 33s on 10" wide rims. The rims in the two pics are 16.5x9.75. I have 33s on 15x10s w/ about 2.5 to 3" of lift on my GMC and no rubbing problems.

Ok.. I've called around a little bit and I think this is what it's gonna end up being. 2" suspension lift, new Rancho shocks and 33x12.50 BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A's
Hopefully I can get the funds together in the next month or so to make it happen

The BFGs are good tires, a little pricey, but I don't think you will be disappointed.

How hard would it be to lift it myself and then have someone do the alignment? I can get springs and shocks for $350 give or take but the labor quote was awful. Anything I should look out for or is it pretty straight forward?

Its pretty much un-bolt stuff and bolt the new stuff back in, not that difficult, you will need some jack stands and a good jack and your usual tools though.

I recomend buying new bolts and replacing the bushing in the frame at the front shackle. The last lift I installed I cut all the u-bolts off (angle grinder) and cut the front spring bolt. The bolt sizes are 9/16"x5" fine thread w/ pinch nut up front and the rear of the front spring is 7/16"x5" fine thread w/ pinch nut. At the shackle end frame bushing I installed a bushings/bolts purchased form ORD. Here's my pics: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...threadid=97507

White letters out or in? I always prefer in. Sounds like you want a little more aggressive? I have a neighbor with 35" x-terrains, they look good and balanced good.
