Re: 70 CST time capsule

Really nice truck, and so far probably worth the money, BUT: Sandalwood trim, but the SPID sticker says gold. Motorola radio is dealer installed, but why is the antenna on the wrong side? 10,000 miles and the tail pipes are rusted out? Possible, I guess. Good point about the factory writing on the firewall. I would have to see this truck in person, but it seems a bit odd. Like maybe it isn't really 100% original.

Re: 70 CST time capsule

i had to go back and look again, the firs time i didn't notice any of the factory spot welds on the tailgate. i can see the ones in the center but along the edges the don't seem near as visable as on my take off GMC tailgate, mabe the orange just hides them better than the green

Re: 70 CST time capsule

solver...that glove box SPID does look incredibly suspicious. I have one from an original '71 low mileage truck with the clear plastic over the top like you said. My '67 and '68 did not have that. There is no way that that SPID got burned liked that without doing some damage to the glove box door! FAKE!!!!!

Re: 70 CST time capsule

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't all steering columns painted black from the factory?

If I had the money, I would bring it home to ND (Sawyer is only 25 miles from Minot!)

Re: 70 CST time capsule

with regards to the 396/402 issue, I had a 1971 GMC it had the original glove box decal and it stated it was a 396, i asked around and a lot of people told me they stopped making them in 69 also. I had fact air, buckets, ps, pb, tilt, tach etc. should have kept it.

Re: 70 CST time capsule

Just remember two things:1)There`s the truck,2)There`s the dealer. The dealer has "Classic" in his name. This is a typical "Classic" "dealer" "ad".
*The VIN-spec sheet doesn`t look burnt at all.Looks original to me.
*Steering columns black w/tilt or black vinyl.
*The truck is worth $25,000+ in that original condition w/BB

I looked at the overspray on the ashtray & went back & looked at it again. It almost looks like a reflection off of the paint. The heater controls look red in the pic too. All in all, I think I believe them.

cool, I've never noticed a 70 with the round style. It is a january truck, so that is highly feasable.

Re: 70 CST time capsule

I had a 69 that came w/67-8 style red/white hubcaps-I bought it from the only other owner & he said it came that way. Another buddy of mine has a 70 CST w/the round mirrors, I think it was an early truck also,,I think plants used what they had til it was gone,,brian

Re: 70 CST time capsule

My truck was two-toned just like this one, and came out of the same plant 3 months earlier and has the same kind of overspray of the white over the body color and the same paint lines around the door. Mine also does not have a laminate over the glove box lid decal, so must be a factory variation (J in the vin = Janesville, WI).

Soo, I'd vote for original paint and decals. A very well kept truck.

SPID label states 396. Shouldn't it be 400?

Re: 70 CST time capsule

Well, if any thing, it should read 402. The badging and spid label causes tons of confusion back then, and 35 years later.
regardles what it says, 396, 400, 402... what ever.... it was a 402 from '70 to 74 or so.

An impressive truck! Also an impressive price for a LWB non A/C non 72 model. I'm not knocking the Long beds fellas its just a fact that they typicaly dont bring the money an identical SWB would.

Re: 70 CST time capsule

It just makes me leery when a vehicle is advertised as a survivor and has an obvioulsly replaced glove box sheet listing "turbo-hydramatuc" instead of turbo-hydramatic. I figure just about everything listed is suspect.
