Re: is it a muncie or saginaw

I think you may have misunderstood me. I am agreeing with you that it is a Muncie. The diagram in the link is for the T16.

Re: is it a muncie or saginaw

Also I don't see a t-16 on the Mr.Gasket pdf. Just T-10's.

The diagram in the link you sent says "Correct for MC1, 'typical' for T16". I think it's a diagram of the MC1, so I agree I think it looks like an MC1.

Sorry, here:

http://www.teufert.net/trans/trannyid.pdf

I think that is where Mr Gasket got the images (if not, it looks exactly the same!) The T16 is listed in there and has a 9-bolt side cover. Looks nothing like what is posted in the PDF you linked, for whatever reason (I think that's why it says "Typical" for T16).

I'm going to look for the casting number mentioned above - on my way home right now. Maybe we can put this to rest once and for all

Re: is it a muncie or saginaw

Well, the news is better than I expected

M1K08A = Muncie / 3-speed, 1971 July 8th, M20

It appears the day/night designation is off, but ... Hell, apparently I have a 1971 Muncie M20, so ... whatever

crazyred, thanks for finally revealing where the casting number is Seems like, basically, whatever that number is, if it starts with M, it's a Muncie, and if it ends in A, B or C, it's an M20, M21 or M22, respectively.

Re: is it a muncie or saginaw

Thanks for the great information. Never too late to post in a thread that is looking for answers. That's what I like about this forum over the other social media venues where everything is a flash in the pan. It's all about today, then move to tomorrow. Very momentary and useless IMO. We can also chit chat here
