Re: previous owner funny fixes?
i know guys that use the stainless steel pipe that they had in their dairy barns for their exhaust, but i am supprised that they let the gutter pass.

Re: previous owner funny fixes?
I'll take the blame for this one. Broke a chunk out of the block on my 400 sb in my stepside. You know, the infamous starter hole. I brilliantly repaired this with a 2x4 to get the starter in the right spot to engage and then a really short rubber tarp strap to keep it there. Had to reposition it at least once a day!! Went through about a dozen tarp straps before pulling that engine and rolling down the hill by the river. Yes we have a hill in N.Dakota and I have rolled many things down it in fits of rage.

i have a couple good ones for ya.....
using a 24oz. beer can to patch a exhaust Y-pipe.... an in my '84 4X4 the P.O. had rewired stuff under the dash with house wiring.... using RTV sealer and numorous size vacuum lines to make one vacuum line..... garden hose in place of heater hoses... and carage bolts in place of headlight adjusting screws....

Re: previous owner funny fixes?
I love this thread!! The bad thing is that the gutter for exhaust and redi-mix for body filler are the only things on here so far that I have not seen for myself, or done myself. I have seen galvanized fencepost for exhaust and inch thick bondo supported by wood screws.
I know a lot of rednecks!! Oh, and that expanding foam works better than duct tape or fruit of the looms!

Re: previous owner funny fixes?
Some of the ones I can remember doing or witnessing.
Window screen works for holding bondo where a rust hole is. 3/8" allthread between bedsides pinching tailgate to corners. exhaust hedl up with logging chain. treated 2x8for bumpers paint can lids for grease caps on trailer hubs expanding foam in cab corners covered in bondo bailing wire for almost everything and if none is handy, wire coat hangers work almost as well!

ha ha ahwe used to use house wire for exhaust hangging worked well cause even if the rubber melted the wires held it fin.. my buddys jeep we used street signs to patch holes in the floor and cocked around them then bolted them. I beam from a ware house for a front bumper .. loads more but i can't think now

Re: previous owner funny fixes?
That I beam front bumper reminds me of the 6 foot section of RR iron for a front bumper I had on my woods bronco.
BTW, the best use for aluminum signs is making battery trays.

Re: previous owner funny fixes?
Not a truck, but it's the thought that counts, right? When I was a kid, Dad bought (cheap) an old fiberglass ski boat that had jacknifed into a car's tail fin. It had an 18" hole in the side of the bow that we found to have been patched with venetian blind slats and glassed over.
Then there's the wooden front bumper of my T-bird, etc. |

Re: previous owner funny fixes?
This is one I saw a few years ago. I was taking my daughter to a community college for band camp about 3 hours from my place. This was right outside the campus. I thought about it till I got close. Bad thing is I saw it a few weeks later near my hometown with some very young couple driving it ON THE STREET and someone let them put tags on it.
Want a lift just put frames on top of one another.

Yup, double frames. Seen it on mud trucks, but never on somthing that would be driven on the street.

Re: previous owner funny fixes?
Yep, someone put 2 SWB frames on top one another as a lift method. I had never seen nor heard of this until I saw it on this one. If you look close you'll see that he used pieces of plywood between the frames as spacers. And how they did th steering and all..

Re: previous owner funny fixes?
You would think that the steering would bind up like that. Two Frame are better than one.

Re: previous owner funny fixes?
When I was a kid, spending the summer at grandpa's farm, one of his neighbor's drove down the driveway with a bumper dragging behind his truck.
He asked my grandpa for some twine to fix his bumper "Until I can get home and fix it right with bailing wire!" My kind of guy.

Re: previous owner funny fixes?
In highschool my Mustang had an old plasitc Coke bottle for a radiator overflow (actually got that idea from Hot Rod magazine). My '72 has a middle hump made by po from a street sign. Nice.

Re: previous owner funny fixes?
probably two of the best one I have seen 1. I saw a guy with a great mod he had a 92 s-10 with a duct tape and plywood whale tale style wing on the back must have had a hard time keeping the back wheels on the ground with that big ole four banger in there. 2. I was repairing floor pans in a 1968 firebird I had and the P.O had already done some patch work with of all things a pedestrian sign, drywall screws and some latex silicon. And of course when in doubt use speaker wire

Re: previous owner funny fixes?
Wow, two frames on a street driven truck and plywood wtf were they thinking. That steering looks like it would just bind up too. On my yellow truck one of the positive wires to the fuse box was just a wire completely wrapped in duct tape and it was done half assed to say the least.

Re: previous owner funny fixes?
Two frames is for a mud truck for sure never on a street truck!! they must know some one to get it passed or just driving it with another tag. very unsafe
