I have the original 307 in my 1968 GMC. I'm pretty new here, but after reading through these threads, I'm not sure that there is any value to having original motor, especially a 307. Check out my truck story in the Welcome Area.

My 71 half ton had a 307 in when I bought it from a guy who used it to haul wood. Then I pulled the 307 put in a 350 out of a 76 impala. when that expired I bought another 307 and drove it to utah and back with that motor.That motor cracked a piston and knocked from piston slap when cold but ran when I pulled it. Next I put in a 350 from a 76 monte carlo which I totally went through. Then for a brief period I had a 406 in it with dart heads, that was fun, but then put it in a regal. Then I put the stock 350 that I went through back in for practicality Drove with this motor until I blew a head gasket about 3 years ago. repairing it now but dont know what I am going to put it in. I am going to put a 406 now that runs on E-85 from my street stock. I have owned this truck and drove it everywhere since 1992 I have learned an emense amount on this truck and it definitely doesnt look as good as it used to but I still love it. When the 406 goes in that will be the eighth engine in the truck that I know of if you figure the 307 replaced the original 350 before I bought it . Currently driving a 71 with a 250 inline. God these trucks give me a good feeling when I sit behind the wheel . I guarantee you I have a better feeling than the guy that pops down 40,000 for a new truck, I just laugh at those guys!! MY goal when I drive somewhere is to not see a vehicle like mine on the road, and when you do you know that guy is cut from the same cloth as you !! Mine are beaters but I like them that way. I,ve got 2-67's that both have the originals in them.but I fixed that. Oh and that 68 50th also had the original.But I fixed that too.

Mine is the same except for that I went with the TH350. I have a new GM 330HP 350CI and a TCI TH350 in my truck.

Original block, later heads. Reportedly has been built once. Speedometer indicates 13K. Is it 113 or 213???? I am guessing the latter, but I've been wrong before.

When I bought mine, the PO had installed a 396 in it. (I think the truck originally had a 307). I climbed into the engine bay one day with a flashlight and a mirror and discovered that according to www.mortec.com and Chevrolet by the Numbers by Alan Colvin, the 396 is a highly sought after 4-bolt main block (based on my casting number 3855962) with a forged steel crank. According to the engine suffix both resources say it came from a 66 Chevelle. I was tickled to say the least when I saw these blocks selling on Ebay for $2500 or more.

The engine was getting tired, so I pulled it in favor of installing a 454.

When I removed the 396s pan, I was sickened to discover it was a 2-bolt main 3855962 block with a cast nodular iron crank. Not only did most of my $2500 potential profit evaporate, but (after getting angry as hell) I rechecked these normally reliable resources for any obvious error on my part. Finding none, I can only conclude that both resources (and maybe some others) simply blew it on this one.

Regardless, I'm very happy with my new 454 torque-monster and have since found a niche buyer for the 396 engine. (The guy's starting a 66 Chevelle SS 396 resto project and needs my particular engine)

While the ending could have been sweeter, it's certainly not ending as bad as it could have.

The 67 panel had the original 292. The 68's is a transplant. It originally had an I6/3spd. When I bought it, it had a mid 70s smogger 350 with mis-matched rods and bad head gaskets/bent valves (the last two are courtesy of me). It now has a 73 400 small block.

my engine and tranny are a transplant. both from different vehicles. the engine was already transplanted into the truck i took it out of and i don't remember what the tranny came out of but both are in great condition and fairly low mileage.

My '67 is the original 250 L6 with 81k miles.
My '72 had a 2 bolt 350 in it when I bought it, and now runs a stoutly built 307 out of a '69 C10.

My Dad's '72 Camper Special has the original 350 with a whopping 46k on it.

My engine is not original 350 never ran the numbers yet but it runs good. Just the way I bought it. Even if it was I would not be for long I can't seem to leave anything alone or stock for long. RJ22

Original 250 straight six. It ran awesome, but the keyway began to get worn on the crank for the harmonic ballancer. I wanted a 350 anyway, so out it came.

The original 350 in my 71 C-10 was replaced with a 350 out of a 1970 Camaro sometime in the past before I bought the truck.

The rest of the C-10 appears to be original, except for the old Sparkmatic radio.

My 72 originally shipped with a 402/4spd that a PO yanked and dropped in a 300hp Z28 350/th350. It ran fine till last Aug when it inhaled a baseplate screw from the Q-jet. It is now motivated by 4-bolt main, balanced, blueprinted 350 from a '78 van.

BTW the truck has 440,000+ miles! It had 235,000 when I bought it in '97.
The rims are now painted flat black as the rest of the truck will be shortly.

The former. There was a ~2 1/2" hole in the high tunnel near the front where the stick came through.

ran the #'s came out a '74 350 from a van. but it was during the gas fiasco so with the heads on it my truck has 145 HP!!!
