The 67 was just rear-ended

Hey all, bad news to report. I just got in a little fender bender. I was getting off of I-85 to run home and get a couple things for work I had forgotten this morning It's 2 lanes wide then opens to 3, but has a median to seperate 2 left turn lanes and a right turn lane. I was in the middle lane and a tractor trailer was in the far left lane. I was near the rear wheels of the trailer when the tractor trailer decides he wants to come into my lane, with no turn signal. He gets halfway over and whips back into his lane, so I hit the brakes and the car behind me smacks my truck. The tractor trailer continued to drive away The damage wasn't bad. The brackets and frame look like they didn't even budge. I'll need a new bumper and license plate bracket. He's paying me out of pocket. I'll have to straighten the exhaust up a hair too.

Re: The 67 was just rear-ended

Nah, we're both fine. Just sucks I was surprising calm the entire time. His car (early 90's pontiac bonneville) took the brunt of the impact. It bent the hood up and broke a headlight, not much else. His bumper was actually below mine. I was actually getting back into the gas after I hit the brakes, and that's when I was hit.

I don't know how many times I've said this before, but I HATE TAILGATERS. This could all have been avoided if the fella behind me wasn't tailgating, especially since it had been sprinking all morning and everything was wet.

This is my first accident in 10 years. Hope it's my last for a long time!

No sheetmetal damage? No Frame damage? COOOL! Having to replace the bumper and fix the pipes stills stinks though.... Happy to hear nobody was hurt.

Re: The 67 was just rear-ended

Man I started reading that and got to the tractor trailer part and I was worried there was nothing left! Picture didn't load until well after I had finished reading the whole thing. Atleast the damage isn't to bad and no one was hurt. That'll buff right out Sorry someone had to say it.

Cool, shorten those pipes and get some exhaust tips while you're at it.

You and me both. It seems like nobody follows the 1 car length per 10 miles an hour rule. Unfortunately if you DO follow at the proper distance someone will jump in front of you which makes you back off further, then another car, even further...next thing you know you could be dead stopped!

I usually keep a sharp eye on everyone else because I know people are dumb. If someone is following too close I give a little bump on the brakes and if that doesnt work I just let off the gas and make them pass me whilst I administer the one finger salute.

You know I might have a slight mean streak in me with bad drivers. Once I was driving over a bridge in the fast lane when I see this teenage girl yapping on her phone and coming up fast on my bumper...so I slow down just enough and she jumps over in the right lane (no blinker of course) and loses her place in the fast lane. (out comes my camera) Well she is tailgating this poor sap the whole way over the bridge (turn camera on, set on dash and start recording) and as soon as the bridge ends it goes from 2 to 3 lanes, well the guy in the slow lane puts on his blinker and gets over (nice fella) and the girl proceeds to floor it and ride the next bumper in line. She had enough of that after a few seconds and jumps into the right lane...except thats where Mr Nice guy is. She puts him in the curb, he loses a hubcap, blows a tire and hits the brakes. Does she stop? Heck no she kept on going. So I take off after her (still using blinkers and driving the speed limit) and follow her over the next bridge out to the beach where she pulls up to a house, gets out and gives me a dirty look. I tell her "Just wanted to let you know I got you on film running that guy off the road and im emailing him the video for his purposes." to which she says "What guy?!" and she was serious!

Sorry for the rant but im with you man...I hate tailgaters!

Re: The 67 was just rear-ended

I'll have to check to see if it's actually bent or not, it's hard to tell if just the bumper was bent or if both were. Thanks for the offer

Re: The 67 was just rear-ended

I had thought about a rear roll pan (like the one putter made) but I'm glad I had a bumper! With no bumper and a roll pan the addicent probably would have gone like this.... tailgate, roll pan, rear bedsides all bent, and on top of that the bed is pushed into the cab......

Guess I'll be keeping the bumper!

Re: The 67 was just rear-ended

67 you got lucky. They just announced that Greensboro is 3 rd on the list of the worst drivers.I know they are bad here but Atlanta didn't make the top 5 and when I lived there it was a free for all.I guess with the cell phones, laptops on the console, books on the steering wheel, and fast lane clothing changes they might have missed the poll and forgot to vote for themselves.

Glad no one was hurt. At least the damage is minor, when I read rear-ended, and tractor trailer, I figured to see a demolished 67 Chevy and a guy in a bodycast.

Ditto

I was half expecting to see another one past the point of no return. Glad to hear you and the truck are both ok. Oh, if you ever plan on hauling stuff get a receiver hitch and leave the receiver and ball on, tends to ward off some of those pesky tailgaters lol and rip the hell outta car hoods.

Nope, she's my baby. I've owned it since '96.

I got a little peeved last night. I was only about 500 feet from home when I got hit yesterday and I had the heater cranked and radio on and didn't notice the exhaust was grinding on the driveshaft until I hopped in the truck to drive it to Jena's last night.

I might not be able to drive it to charlotte this weekend It's an easy fix, I don't know if I'll have time to straighten it all out.
