Re: johnboy's thread

my question for the day is

does anybody have info on the older caddy rearends?

like is it the same width as a stock chevy truck rearend?

anybody know a website where i can check into it?

i have heard that the older caddy had a 5x5 with disc brakes

they also have a rear end thats 5x4.75 with drum

i wonder if they offered a 5x4.75 with disc

i would love to run disc rear brakes, the deal is the wheels im running are for a s-10 they are 5x4.75 so this will work great if its the same width i wont have to run adapters

one more ? are the front rotors the same as a truck, could i put the caddy rotors with 5x4.75 pattern on some truck drop spindles?

Re: johnboy's thread

If you are wanting to use S10 wheels on the truck you are going to have to change the whole truck over.

The benefit to the caddy rear ends is they were drilled for 5 on 5 like the trucks. Disc were only available on the HD versions (5 x 5 only)

If you want s10 wheels get the rearend out of an F-body. Of course you still have the front to contend with.

Re: johnboy's thread

i would suggest finding a donor truck or suburban so you can get everything you can off of it. is that a short wheel base??

Re: johnboy's thread

i think it was a 3/4 ton , it was a single wheel 4 door long wheel base truck with 350 motor, and my truck is a 1/2 ton long wheel base

Re: johnboy's thread

Looks like a 14 bolt full floater rear so it was probably a 3/4 ton .

Re: johnboy's thread

looks good.. i know some of the lincolns had a disk brake rear end to.. not sure on the bolt pattern...the 84 mark VII i had was air ride from the factory, so useing it on a 4 link wouldnt be that hard to do....

Re: johnboy's thread

well i got the front bagged been working on it all weekend on and off, i pancaked the crossmember and i will say its alot of labor and headache so far, but i really didnt wanna z the front end, iwould definately invest in a dropmember if i had the money in my budget, for now im gonna try to make as much of my stock stuff work as possible.
after i get back from heatwave in austin im gonna work on fitting the stock steering back on it.

its late so my pics are dark i will take better pics in the daylight

If you could think of a way to fab it up and make it work, why not?

Re: johnboy's thread

so you raised the steering as much as you raised the crossmember, right? Other wise it is going to bump steer really badly.
