Newbie's 66
Time for a proper intro. I just joined last week and this site is an awesome source of information. I've been pouring through the threads over the last few days and I am learning a lot.
Here's my project: This 66 has been in the family for 16 + yrs. My brother painted it in 92-93 and it has basically been in storage since. The 283 came out of a 65 and I rebuilt it in shop class in 84. New bed floor this spring. It needs some TLC but should be a great foundation. Just trying to figure out where to start I've been getting some great ideas from everyone on this site, thanks! |

Re: Newbie's 66
There's alot of great people on these boards who are willing to help you and unlike some other forums the people don't act like jerks. That's a nice truck. I like that color. Looks like all you need to do is clean it under the hood and you're good to go.

Clean up the engine bay and perhaps the undercarriage and you'll be all set. Nice truck and enjoy the forum!

Anyway the staff changed my signature instead of banning me, and will use it to advertise one of the sister sites instead! Check out www.http://streetcruizin.com or www.chevygmcclub.com they both rock. Also if you wish to subscribe to the site the information on how to do so is at http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a....php?f=50&a=17 Thank you and enjoy your day. |

Re: Newbie's 66
Nice truck Larc
Drive it around town wave at people and show it off! Daily driver though or highway use? 1. Power steering and more braking power. do these both at same time by finding a donor 71 or 72. 2. Transmission - works ok but slips a bit? a rebuild with all soft parts and labor about $600. - jumps out of gear or grinds? sell it to local 4 wheeler club and put in an overdrive. Just My Humble Opinion Enjoy Your Ride!! |

Re: Newbie's 66
Welcome from BC! That's a nice looking truck. But, you should take the engine to Anthony for a visual freshening!
As to where to start, I'd look at front disc brakes. I can see you have the single master still, so this will be a worthwhile upgrade in two ways (better braking and more reliability).

Welcome from Colorado. Nice truck!
Can you explain what you did with the bed wood? What wood, coatings, etc. It looks almost like you coated the boards with acrylic... they're beautiful.

If you want bedwood to look like glass. All you have to do is spray it with about 10 coats of Urethane Clear and wet sand and buff.. Ok maybe 10 coats it to much but 5 or 6 would be nice. And sand each board down starting with a 100 grit, then a 220 and finish it off with a 320 then coat them with the Clear. After the clear you can wet sand them with 1500 then a 200 and buff to a deep shine..

Re: Newbie's 66
1) Insert key.
2) Push in clutch. 3) Start engine. 4) Select 2nd gear. 5) Give it some gas let out the clutch, and hang on. All you need to invest in it, is some gas money! nice heirloom.

Re: Newbie's 66
Thank you everyone for the positive comments! I'll be the first to admit that it is a great base for a project. The truck runs great and I'm just trying to get it into a dependable condition. 15+ years of storage leaves a lot of little projects, belts, hoses, complete brake job, wiring etc. Starting to get some paint bubbling from the usual areas. The floor was the first project and it looks phenom. Thanks to my retired parents who stained and put 10-12 coats of poly. along with countless hours of sanding into it!!!!! I'm thinking power steering and a 4/5 spring drop is the first order of business......
Thanks for all the input! |
