On a side note..... I attempted to slide the LSx into the truck tonight. Using some plates that have been scribed w/the typical 'LS to sbc' mount orientation, the drivetrain is pretty close. The 4l80e required removing more of the trans tunnel than I had hoped & I'm thinking I might need to get a f-body oil pan for better bottom end clearance for servicing entrance/exit.

It's a good thing these motors don't have distibutors @ the back of the manifold. The fit is tighter than my wallet .....

It will use the stock trailing arms, IIRC.

I would imagine the rear link set up will be like the 73-87 kits Porterbuilt makes. pics of the 73-87 kit are on the attached link.

So, you're using an off the shelf adapter plate instead of the PB plates? I would definitely recommend the F-body pan; from test fits in the Blazer, I would say it is a necessity.

I have the sbc DM because that's what was installed in the truck when I made the purchase. I was looking for a 5.3/4l60e for my 74 when I ran across the 6.0/4l80e & figured it would be great for my Beater/tow vehicle. Nate & I have discussed possible options. He'll be working on something on his end & while waiting, I figured I would attack it from mine.

I made 'adapter' plates that are bolted to the LS block & prepped them for both the 'stock' sbc location as well as the 1" set back. After my initial attempt last night, the sbc holes in the plate were very close. The issue I did run into was between the height of the truck intake & the depth of the truck pans sump it was very difficult to get a confirmation that adapter plates will work.

From info I found via the net, the f-body pan is 3" more shallow vs. the truck pan. What I'm trying to confirm @ this time is specifics on the Caddy CTSv pan. It's very similar to the f-body pan dimensionally & apparently uses the same windage tray as the trucks (which means less stuff to buy/mess with).

You will need the F-body pan for sure... and the F-body pick-up tube. The windage tray can be salvaged with slight trimming.

This configuration was originally destined for trailing arms... BUT it looks like a four-link makes a lot more sense.

The overall height will be the same. The supplied motor mounts from PB are the same for LSX or SBC; the only difference is in where the mounting tabs are welded to the crossmember.

The truck windage tray can be modified to work with the Camaro pan. The CTS pan may prove to be unobtanium. Though the F-body pans don't exactly grow on trees these days...

My logic is that I most likely won't be the only guy that upgrades to a LSx drivetrain w/the rising costs of petrol.

How much farther forward are the LSx motor-mount tower tabs on the c.member vs. the sbc tabs?

They're actually set back a bit. Looks like ~3"; I haven't had one of each to compare. It looks like the rear tab is in virtually the same spot... Here's a photo comparison: SBC(top), LSX(mine,bottom)
